There is not many times that we encounter authentic transparency in life. Ricardo Palomares impressively bares his life out there for the benefit of many.
This book was for me a reminder to daily enjoy my own personal journey of life and to know that events, painful experiences, challenges and flaws in life are all important pieces that make for an adventurous journey.
Very engaging read and a great reminder to mindfully embrace the gift of life!
My favorite quote from the book:
"We get to decide whether pain is going to push us down or push us forward. We get to decide how we experience pain, and how it affects us on a daily basis. More importantly, we get to decide to be present, take charge, and live our lives."
This was a quick read for me. I really enjoyed learning about the Pedal South project, and wish there would've been more details about it.
For example, as a new business owner, it's easy for me to feel far from where I want to be. When I feel overwhelmed with my journey, I think about how Ricardo pushed through physical pain (and, frankly, lack of preparation) to take one step at a time and complete the nearly 500-mile journey of the Camino de Santiago.
The Camino de Santiago, his immigration to the United States, his 22-month bike trip of the Americas and other wonderful stories remind you that getting clear on what you want and betting on yourself will make what seems impossible possible.
I suggest reading this book on a Sunday afternoon. Let it soak in. And have wonderful, fresh perspective for the new week.
In this day in age where most people enjoy a high level of comfort and status, Ricardo Palomares shows us that sometimes we have to destroy those walls of security, in order to achieve a more meaningful and purpose driven life.
From working as a dragon mascot in the streets of Mexico, to walking the length of Spain, to biking from Alaska to Argentina, Ricardo pushed himself to the most extreme lengths in order to discover himself and realize his dreams. Through simple yet eloquent writing, Ricardo takes you on this winding journey that will leave you feeling both inspired and motivated to achieve your own dreams. Even it’s the hardest and most painful journey you’ve ever taken, this book will show you that it’s all worth it on the other side.
I was fortunate to have met Ricardo on my first day walking the Camino de Santiago. I was always impressed by his ability to form genuine, deep connections with others and to truly appreciate the beauty and complexity in each person's story. His strong curiosity, bravery, and drive have led him to overcome substantial obstacles and achieve great things. His efforts to cultivate cross-cultural understanding and human connection through stories is especially important in our increasingly globalized yet heavily conflicted world today.
