Say farewell to slobbery games of fetch. The brilliantly-simple design of Chuckit! means you'll never have to pick up a sodden tennis ball again. Perfect for ball junkies of all breeds and sizes, this nifty little toy is like an extension of your arm. You'll throw longer and faster and keep hands slime-free, all without wearing out your pitching arm. With practice, it's possible to fling a ball as far as 140 feet, tiring out the most fetch-happy retriever in a shorter period of time. Chuckit! is also great for owners with mobility issues, since there's no need to bend over and pick up balls. Simply place the claw over the ball and press down. The Chuckit! tool snaps around the ball and holds on. To get the most distance out of the tool, use an overhand throw and follow through. Use only standard-size tennis balls, and be careful not to throw directly at animals or people. This set comes complete with a ball to get you started. --Mary Park

Here's How to Chuckit!
There's a learning curve of 10-20 throws.
Find an open area, away from people, animals and buildings. With the ball in the Chuckit!, grip the handle firmly.
- Extend your arm back over your shoulder until the ball is behind you. Then swing it forward in a smooth arc. Remember to follow through.
- The Chuckit! will release the ball when you swing it fast enough.
Aim High - the Chuckit! tends to throw the ball downward. Don't watch the Chuckit! while you throw. Instead, look where you want the ball to go.
Pick It Up
Holding the handle of the Chuckit!, place the ball claw over the tennis ball and press down firmly. The Chuckit! will grab the ball and hold on.

—We've used these launchers in all their incarnations over the past twenty years or so and the basic concept's great, in fact, a life-saver when tiring out our 3 hyperactive standard poodles. They're clearly ball-chasing addicts at this point.
—There's been a definite degradation in the product over the years, primarily in the cup's ability to grip/pick-up the ball.
—I'm no materials science guy but it seems there's been a change in the composition of the plastic such that it's lost much of its elasticity—the cup simply fails to grab the ball in a relatively short period of time (a couple months of use) where it seemed to last for over a year previously. Notice in one of the pictures how stretched out the cup gets—needless to say, it no longer picks up the ball!
—Our last 4 Chuck-It's (pictured) all suffer from the same malady to one degree or another, perhaps the orange (smaller one) slightly less so.
—Such mysterious loss of elasticity in subsequent 'newer/improved' models reeks of 'planned obsolescence'. Unfortunately, it worked! We've bought at least 10 over the years!
—Out of desperation, we tried another brand, also purchased here on Amazon, the Hyper-Pet Throw-n-Go® (the two black launchers to the left of the Chuck-Its)
—The Hyper-Pet is nearly identical in price but has held its cup's 'grab-ability' much longer. To be fair, it *is* shorter than the 26M, requiring you to bend over a tad more. It features a more flexible neck region, which may slightly limit maximum throw distance, but which is still great for our hyperactive standard poodles and which has the unexpected benefit of saving your wrist and forearm/elbow; I've not re-experienced humeral epicondylitis (tennis elbow) since switching (yeah, we use them *a lot*!). On the down side, the Hyper-Pet comes only in black and its circular 'extra-ball storage' in the handle is gimmicky.
In sum, I feel slightly used and abused by the phine pholks at Chuck-It what with my 'engineered obsolescence' concerns and the fact we've been such good customers. Topping it off, I wrote to them about my observations a month ago and have yet to hear back.
And so, since Chuck-It seems to have 'thrown the match', I've decided to 'throw in the towel'. Buh bye, now.
There are several key benefits of the Chuck It launchers: One is that you can chuck the ball further than you can throw, which allows you to exercise your dog more easily. The second is that you can pick up and launch the ball without touching it, which means NO slime! And, the Chuck It also gives extra reach when you have to retrieve a ball from sticker brambles.
Those are great features for anyone with a fetch dog. If you also happen to have a weak arm or shoulder, the Chuck It launchers provide nice throwing options. I generally throw underhanded. I can't get the full potential range, that way, but, I still get good, long tosses. I curl my second finger above the last bump on the handle, and use a good wrist flick along with arm swing. I've seen others throw side-arm with the Chuck It.
I had originally written a second review for the longer 25M Chuck It. Either I, or Amazon messed up, and it looks like I can have only this one review. So, here are my additional thoughts on the 25M: I bought the 25M so that I could throw the ball even further! The good news is, you really can chuck further, with the longer chucker. The bad news is, those longer throws do require more arm and shoulder strength than when using the 18M. This becomes more obvious when you've done 3 or 4 dozen throws. I would recommend the 25M only for those with the youth and/or strength to get the most out of it. Otherwise, I'd say, go with the 18M.
