About the Author
Karl Barth was described by Pope Pius XII as the most important theologian since Thomas Aquinas, the Swiss Pastor and Theologian, and Barth continues to be a major influence on students, scholars and preachers. Barth's theology found its expression mainly through his closely reasoned fourteen part magnum opus, Die Kirchliche Dogmatik. Having taken over 30 years to write, the Church Dogmatics is regarded as one of the most important theological works of all time, and represents the pinnacle of Barth's achievements as a theologian.

Karl Barth tells us that the agape-relationship we enjoy with the exalted “Son-of-Man”; deserves its own doctrinal articulation. This may be one of the few times that “Agape” is recognized for its empowering character within the Christian community. Because this is the case; this volume deserves your very careful reading and research. As usual; I recommend taking all of Barth’s teachings in small portions, so as to be sure to reap the benefit of the rich content available to us through the “DOGMATICS”. I gleaned the following list of short and powerful lessons:
PARAGRAPH 67: “UPBUILDING-OF-COMMUNITY”
1. UPBUILDING; FIT-TOGETHER; FELLOWSHIP PP. 1-40
2. SELF-DISCLOSURE; KINGDOM; EMPOWERMENT PP. 40-67
3. ENTOLE; DESIDERATA; LITURGICAL-LAW PP. 67-90
4. SIGNIFICATION; EDIFICATION; CANON-LAW PP. 90-117
PARAGRAPH 68: “THE HOLY SPIRIT & CHRISTIAN LOVE”
5. SELF-GIVING; ELECTION; TRANSCENDENCE PP. 117-141
6. AGAPE AS CONCEPT; HENOSIS; KOINONIA PP. 142-172
7. IMPARTATION; BEING-TOGETHER; SAL. HIST. PP. 172-212
8. SKE’MA; I COR 13.; ESCHATON PP. 212-229
These lessons are all reflected off “Christology” and they all reach “concrete-truth”, as Barth requires. This AGAPE-VOLUME is the volume we all pray for. It is a gift of grace to all who enter. 5 stars for “Agape-as-Self-Giving”
The new Study Edition of Church Dogmatics contains English translations of these passages for those of us who are not fluent in the original languages. The original page numbering is preserved for ease and consistency of reference.
This 33 volume project will open Barth's magisterial thinking to new generations of scholars. It is a landmark achievement.
