“Gaiman’s comic timing gets a boost from strategic book design and from Rex’s hyperreal paintings, which emphasize Chu’s round, fuzzy form and apparent harmlessness. Gaiman and Rex deliver a classic one-two-three punch, making hay from the notion that a cuddly baby panda is not to be trusted.” (Publishers Weekly (starred review)) --This text refers to an alternate kindle_edition edition.

What I got was a lovely little book, that tells a simple story that's easy to follow, and isn't confusing at all. You'd think that could be a working definition for really young kids' books – but it's simply such a wonderful book to read to my 4-month old son. It's the first book of many we've tried that he actually follows, getting excited when Chu [spoilers] may or may not sneeze. :) The illustrator brings us beautiful images that are pleasing to pick out from the good, hard card book – colourful and bold, and textured – to put adorable pandas into the simple, but well-crafted shenanigans Gaiman created for them.
We took a trip recently, and this was one of the books that HAD to come in the carry-on. I'm pretty sure the people in the seats around of could have recited the book from memory by the time we landed.
What a simple, beautiful book! My sons ask me to read it over and over. Every “Aaah, aaah, aaah… no” has them cracking up, every time! Less than 200 words, and every one has impact.
The illustrations are just incredible. Every time we read it we notice something else - the cockroach family, the card catalog cubicles, the engrossed fox who DGAF, the unimpressed hipster camel. There’s so much thoughtful detail.
Thank you, Mr. Gaiman and Mr. Rex, for helping me foster a love of reading in my kids.
I would say that the ideal ages for Chu's Day are 2-3 years. However, the intricate and engrossing illustrations will keep the attention of much older "kids." I continue to find new (and funny) things on every page.
A beautiful, fun book.

it's durable, beautifully illustrated with bright, clear images that have enough detail in them for your child to spot lots of different features.
The story is clear, short, and avoids contractions.
