Editorial Reviews

CLEAN. 2013 release, the fifth studio album by the R&B artist. On this studio album, Ciara is reunited with music producers Rodney Jerkins and Jasper Cameron who have respectively worked on previous Ciara singles and albums. The duo are joined by The Underdogs, Oligee, Josh Abraham and Mike Will Made It, amongst others. Writing contributions come from the likes of singer/songwriters: Wynter Gordon, Livvi Franc and Ali Tamposi, along with a number of contributions from Ciara herself. Rappers Future and Nicki Minaj respectively have guest vocals on the album, whilst Ciara herself listed as a feature on the song "Super Turnt Up", a record where she raps and takes credit for co-producing the song.

It took a while but the First Lady of Crunk&B, Ciara, is back and back with a vengeance. Her new music is funky, fresh, innovative, cool and hot, hot, hot!!! This album is a mixture of R&B, hip-hop, pop, electro and crunk music and it all sounds great. The best tracks on the album would have to be the album's lead single "Body Party", her collaboration with Nicki Minaj "I'm Out", the sexy "Sophomore", the fun "Super Turnt Up", the smooth and sultry "DUI" and the light-hearted and bubbly "Livin' It Up" (which also features Nicki Minaj). Overall, I thought it was a good comeback for Ciara after her two previous albums, Fantasy Ride and Basic Instinct, failed to catch fire. I just wish that "Sweat" (featuring 2 Chainz), "Sorry" and "Got Me Good" were included on the album as bonus tracks. Even though they weren't successful as Ciara hoped them to be, all three of them were still really good.

The Queen of the South delivers a nice album both men and women can listen to together. The production is tight and the track listing just naturally flows like a river downhill. Definitely recommended for all you ladies out there even guys can take a few pointers on this one also. 4/5 Stars

First of all, thank you Ciara. I'm so glad you're back - and thank you for growing so much as an artist.
Listening to this album, you can tell that she put herself out there. There's some rapping Ci-Ci does in Super Turnt Up, which is one of my favorites on this album. I can't wait to see how she puts it together with her craaaazy amazing dancing in her music videos.

Now back to the album. Every song is HOT - I really love Sophomore (Track 2) and Super Turnt Up (Track 7). The styles change from sweet and intimate like in Body Party (Track 3) to "Boy, what I got you can't have" like in Keep on Lookin' (Track 4).

What can I say? I got this album this morning and I've gone through it three times already... Love it.

Now everyone reading this review should do two things...
1) Show Ciara some love and get this album!
and 2) Turn it up and get down!!!!

I actually wasn't expecting much when this album first came out because I saw that it only had 10 songs on it, which kinda made me feel like she was cheating her fans after making them wait 3 years for new material, especially after the underwhelming Basic Instinct. I previewed a couple songs on the album, and nothing really stood out other than the fantastically sultry first single Body Party, so I just copped that and didn't look back. However, after falling in love with her heartbreaking new song I Bet, I decided to revisit this album, and I'm so glad I did. It may not have produced any hits other than Body Party, but there are so many hidden gems on this one!

Songs I LOVE:
Sophomore - This is a sexy babymaker right here! What Body Party does for the club, this song will fit your bedroom needs.
Read My Lips - It took me a few spins to get into this one but damn this song is hot! Basically the female version of Good Kisser by Usher hah.
Livin' It Up - I actually prefer this to the other Nicki Minaj collabo on the album, I'm Out. That song, I feel, is just a generic version of Beyonce's Freakum Dress. Livin' It Up might not be original per se, but it feels more organic. A feel good, girl power anthem that throws in an unexpected rap verse from Nicki that adds extra fire to the joint!
DUI - Super sultry slow jam about being drunk in love. Love her breathy, understated vocals!
Overdose - Fantastic banger to close out the album. Yes, it's another love song but it's got a banging beat and it's super fun to sing along to.

Songs I Could've Done Without:
Keep On Lookin' - A throwaway filler track about how sexy she is and how the boys in the club can't stop staring. Girl, we already know though.

This album is so much better than Ciara's last 2 efforts. This work is cohesive and the album flows well from start to finish. My favorite tracks are Body Party, Livin It Up, and Sophomore. Highly recommend it!

Nearly all the songs are good and a much better improvement and huge step up from "Basic Extinct". Fantasy Ride was okay, but this one has a much stronger, well executed output. Not to mention more songs that have replay value. It does feel like the old Ciara has come back, but with a much modern twist. I can actually listen throughout the album without skipping. The only song on here I wasn't too crazy about was "Where You Go". Other than that, a job well done. Keep up the good work, Ciara! I'm looking forward to her upcoming album "Jackie". I hope the new album will be just as good as this one. Super Turnt Up should have been released as a single. Her rapping wasn't bad at all. I actually thought it was Nicki at first.

Top 5:

1) Body Party
2) Overdose
3) Super Turnt Up
4) Read My Lips
5) Boy Outta Here
