Cipher (Southern Arcana) Paperback – August 7, 2012
Best Books of the Year So Far in fiction, nonfiction, mysteries, children's books, and much more.
“Werewolf and shifter novels are nothing new, but when they are written exceptionally well, as is Cipher, they are something to take note of. It doesn’t matter that this is number four in a series (following Deadlock); readers are sucked in from the beginning.”
“…a great story which is capable of standing alone while still staying true to the other tales in the series.”
—RT Book Reviews on Deadlock
“There is just something about this Southern Arcana world by Moira Rogers that I love.”
—Smexy Books on Deadlock
Kat’s empathic ability can be a deadly weapon. Unleashing it saved her friend’s life, but it cost her their easy relationship—and his humanity.
Since the attack that turned him into a werewolf, Andrew has pushed Kat away. She doesn’t need a friend, she needs a protector strong enough to shield her from the supernatural world that forced her to kill. Strong enough to resist their volatile connection. Yet as her quest to understand her violent legacy leads her into the darkest underbelly of the psychic world, the greatest threat they pose is to each other.

So, it's been a while. Since 2013 to be exact... Yikes! Yep, that's when I read Deadlock, the third book in Moira Roger's Southern Arcana series. I could come up with an excuse for that time lapse I suppose, but honestly, there isn't a good one, especially since I love this series. *sigh*
Saying that Kat and Andrew have a history is putting it mildly. Kat has had a crush on him since before the tragedy that tore them apart. Kat was afraid to be near anyone and so was Andrew. They were both afraid that they couldn't keep an handle on the power that they spent 24/7 keeping in check. The down side was that they were making each other and themselves miserable trying to keep their distance. In Cipher, they had no choice and Andrew was determined to keep Kat safe, whether he was ready to be close to her or not.
Yeah, this romance was a long time coming, but there was a lot more to this story than that. Politics, mystery and an unexpected enemy that proves to be more dangerous than any of them could imagine. Kat learns more about her past and her heritage and not everyone makes it out in one piece, physically or emotionally. Which means I really need to get my hands on Impulse sooner rather than later. I don't think I can wait another three years to find out what happens next.
Cipher is the fourth book in the Southern Arcana series by the awesome writing duo that is Moira Rogers. Andrew Callaghan and Kat Gabriel experienced a life changing and traumatic experience just over a year ago that left them both emotionally battered and scarred... and left Andrew a newly turned wolf shifter. They'd always had a thing for each other, but were both young and hadn't had the chance to take things further.
After the attack, Kat had to deal with everyone seeing her as the broken-hearted fool when Andrew's new strength and instincts needed to be trained and he had to learn discipline away from Kat. Just as dangerous, Kat's empathic abilities are deadly if she doesn't have the right training to keep the powers from bombing someone's brains out. And so instead of growing closer after the event, they went their separate ways no matter the heartache it caused. But now something is going on that brings them back together and it's a great ride!
I am a sucker for love stories where the hero and heroine have a complicated history together, as friends to lovers, and Cipher totally delivered for me. The minute Andrew and Kat are together again, I immediately wanted to know more about their motives for staying apart all this time. Where was all this guilt and fear coming from? I wanted them to talk and work it out because their attraction and affection is palpable. The first time they ride in a car together? Holy mama, smoke em if you got em, it's tense. As their journey makes it clear there is no way they can continue ignoring their need to be together, it is fun to watch it play out. They both learn to accept the fact that they can cause each other severe harm, but that they have the control necessary now to never do that to each other.Read more ›
You see some of the geeky, sweet Kat that you first meet in Crux but fourteen months after the attack on her and Andrew, there are noticeable changes. Her psychic abilities are stronger and there's an edge to her. Even when she's scared, she wanted to confront things head on. I wouldn't say she's a new Kat but rather the Kat you've come to love with a few improvements. As much as I want to hate Andrew for pushing Kat away and hurting her the way he did, I see why he did it. His feelings for her never wane and he's hurting just as much as she is but he keeps his distance so he can become not only a better man, but a better and more in control wolf. There's no hesitation to help Kat when she needs him during her search to find answers about her mother. Now that I've read his book, I see the good man Kat does and know he's right for her.
Kat and Andrew each place blame on themselves for what happened fourteen months ago and whenever the other gets hurt.Read more ›

Ok, I like the story I like Kat and Andrew, a little too explicit for my taste.
I feel like am hooked on these and I absolutely have to read every book in the series. I am so mad that Ben died before they could disband the cult.Published 5 months ago by Kindle Customer
Too long and I didn't connect with Kat and Andrew. A lot of repetitive language about her mother and miscommunication between them. I'd skip to the next story.Published 5 months ago by Ava Bird
