The debut picture book from the creator of the viral sensation Kid President is a moving take on how we can create bigger and bigger circles of community and connections as we grow—now a New York Times bestseller!

In the circles all around us, everywhere that we all go, there's a difference we can make and a love we can all show.

This is the story of a circle. When we're first born, our circle is very small, but as we grow and build relationships, our circle keeps getting bigger and bigger to include family, friends, neighbors, community, and beyond. Brad Montague originally created
Circles as an Instagram video adorably narrated by his kids, and now this picture book adaptation is the perfect way to start a conversation about how to expand our worlds with kindness and inclusivity—even if it seems scary or uncomfortable. This book makes an ideal new-baby, first-day-of-school, or graduation gift, or any milestone that celebrates someone's world getting bigger.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

K-Gr 2—Rather than a book about shapes, this title refers to the concentric circles of love that grow from one's self to include family, then extended family, then friends, community helpers, more friends, and the world at large. "So let us create bigger circles / all around us for the rest of our days. / Let our caring ripple out / in a million little ways." There may be some confusion over why sometimes circles are shown intersecting rather than rippling out, but the overall message is one of inclusion and performing acts of kindness. A delicate line and soft colors depict a diverse cast of winsome characters and the dainty details of how they spread goodwill. The hand-lettered text is visually of a piece with the line in the art. This is most appropriate for one-on-one sharing, and some practice will be required in order to read the verse without stumbling. VERDICT This is a well-meaning inducement to build community that will be best understood through conversation with an adult reader.—Jan Aldrich Solow, formerly Fairfax County Public Sch., VA

Student Gift at the end of the year!
I LOVE this book. I teach an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) program and this book really captured the neurodivergent outlook on relationships. It was a heartfelt, loving gift. The quality was amazing, each book was delivered in great condition. Beware, the boxes are heavy if you order multiple! If you haven’t heard the story, go on YouTube to listen to the entire thing, you’ll love it.

I give this book to all my friends’ kids. Most of them are too young to fully understand it right now, but I love knowing they know that we’ll always be part of their circle.

Our 3 year old grandson was having a hard time transitioning to his new preschool class. This book helped us talking with him about his feeling. I would highly recommend.

While the overall message and illustrations were admirable and promote world community, empathy, and neighborliness, it wasn’t a good fit for us, at least not for the time being.

We’re focused more on identifying which people are safe to trust and on what level, since safety is a bigger concern for my very friendly family.

We’re using Social Boundaries: The Circles Curriculum for “discriminating different levels of intimacy and adapting their behaviors accordingly”. This book, I believe, could undermine that message since it talks about expanding our circles and letting more people in.

We are huge fans of Brad Montague in this home! I read “Being Better Grownups” last year and it changed my outlook on parenting. I quote that book all the time. When I saw on his Instagram page that he was releasing a kids book, I pre-ordered and anxiously awaited its arrival. It arrived yesterday and we read it together as a family at bedtime last night. Our 5-year-old loved it and our 3-year-old loved the images. The message of the story is beautiful and one that resonates with people of all ages. Brad Montague does it again ... pure perfection!
