Review

"Moore throws us into an intriguing and vivid world where divine beings scrape by as performers in a depression-era-style circus. The plot is minimal: defeat the villain, get the girl. But the fantasy world is wonderful and I can only hope there might be longer stories to come, in this same setting?" ~Emily Veinglory, POD People

"Ms. Moore Pens A Fascinating Short Story That Had Me Rapidly Reading And It Is A Must Read!!" ~Linda's Reviews, Goodreads

From the Author

Marsha A. Moore loves to write fantasy and fantasy romance. Much of her life feeds the creative flow she uses to weave highly imaginative tales.

The magic of art and nature often spark life into her writing, as well as watercolor painting and drawing. She's been a yoga enthusiast for over a decade and is a registered yoga teacher. After a move from Toledo to Tampa in 2008, she's happily transformed into a Floridian, in love with the outdoors. Marsha is crazy about cycling. She lives with her husband on a large saltwater lagoon, where taking her kayak out for an hour or more is a real treat. She never has enough days spent at the beach, usually scribbling away at stories with toes wiggling in the sand. Every day at the beach is magical!

In the harsh reality of today's world, sometimes I need to get lost in a fantasy, and this story whisked me away. I actually experienced the circus with my five senses as I read about the high wire hero and his love. I've read several of Marsha's fantasies and she always puts me right in the action with her characters. If you like fantasy, I highly recommend her books.

The only complaint I have is that it ended way too soon :) This was a great read about Ravi, a Suparna, who is hiding his true identity from most of the circus folk (besides Jack the Manager and his girlfriend Alice). While practicing for their performance, Ravi nearly drops Alice from the flying trapeze as a newly hired dwarf, Sadie, causes a commotion below with Ravi's friends, the Snake people. He has a feeling the dwarf is more than meets the eye, and soon finds out his feelings are correct. He sees Sadie one night doing something hideous and decides to inform Jack. What happens next is the search for Sadie's whereabouts as well as what Sadie truly is, as she is no ordinary dwarf. I really liked this story and thought that Moore did a great job of making Ravi seem real with his "not so good English". I encourage you to take a chance on this book. You won't be disappointed!

I loved this urban fantasy short story with its Sanskrit spirits and demons. It's inspired me to read more of Marsha's work. It's about a circus in the 20s where Ravi, the Suparna birdman and aerial artist, discovers that the dwarf, Sadie is a Rakshasi and he must deal with her before his beloved Alice becomes next on the creatures hit list.

(Review by Cynthia Shepp for Word Vagabond)

Enter the world of Le Cirque de Magie, The Circus of Magic, in Prohibition-era America. This book delves into Sanskrit spirits and demons. Ravi, a sun-bird deity, is the main character of the book. He does not speak good English but he manages to come across as a great man. Ravi is a performer in Le Cirque de Magie, whose winter home is in Sarasota, Florida. He is part of the trapeze act and is in love with Alice, another performer in the circus. The circus is full of supernatural creatures, such as the snake people, called Nagas, who are semi-divine beings. The manager of the circus, Jack, hires a female dwarf named Sadie at the last minute, to be a part of the show. Ravi senses that there is something wrong with the dwarf, and sets out to find out what it is and to protect his love and his troop. The dwarf causes all kinds of trouble, leaving death and destruction in her wake. Full of magic, gruesome and disturbing images, and a sweet love story, Le Cirque de Magie is sure to impress.

Le Cirque de Magie was an odd but interesting short story. Being a quick read, around twenty to thirty minutes, it is extremely full of adventure in a very short time. I did have a few issues with the book. There was not enough character development for my taste and it took me a few chapters before I realized what era the story was set in. I loved the introduction into Sanskrit spirits and demons, but there was no follow-up or follow-through. The author just put the characters out there like you already understood what they were and what they were capable of. Regardless of that, I thoroughly enjoyed this short story.

Engaging, somewhat satisfying read. What I liked about it outweighed its flaws, which, unfortunately, also includes a 'meh' sort of ending. I liked the idea of the creature the main character was, and the author did a fairly good job of appealing to all five senses in descriptions and creative atmosphere.
Few editing issues, including some underdeveloped aspects and some spotty tell-y parts in the narrative. But overall, decent--especially as a free read.

Le Cirque de Magie sets readers down in the 1920s alongside Ravi, a trapeze artist in a circus troupe in Sarasota, Florida. Ravi's no ordinary trapeze artist, he's really a supernatural being called a Suparna.

During his troupe's run, a dwarf joins up, but Ravi senses something strange about her--something he doesn't like. When his beloved Alice is threatened, Ravi senses the dwarf is behind it.

Can Ravi save his beloved? What more trouble will the dwarf cause before he can stop her? And what'll happen when Ravi's secret is exposed?

You'll have to read to find out!

Filled with intrigue, romance, and magic, along with authentic tidbits of the culture of the 1920s that created a unique and vivid story world, this is a delightful little tale that I think fantasy fans will enjoy--I sure did!
