By overlaying the signals of multiple radios for each band, Wireless-N's "Multiple In, Multiple Out" (MIMO) technology multiplies the effective data rate. Great item for Windows 7 pro 64 bit

The internal wireless modem on my ASUS n61jv laptop failed two times under warranty. Fortunately it held out for a few years after the w ran out--but now has failed again. Rather than go through the hassle and expense of getting it fixed, now that the computer is kind of old, I ordered the Cisco-Linksys WEC600N Dual Band Wireless-N Ultra RangePlus Expresscard. My computer has an expresscard/34 slot, so I had to research out that the WEC600N is in fact a /34, not a /54. Why can't sellers list this in the info? /54 cards won't fit, and some, for example the WPC600N, are /54.

Anyway, the card arrived, and as per other reviewers here, I didn't bother with the CD, just stuck it in the slot with a wired ethernet connection in place. Windows 7 64 bit found it immediately and installed the driver from the internet in about 10 seconds. Up and running immediately. It connects at the full 54Mbps with my router (distance only about 20 feet, so haven't tested the range yet). Overall speedtest.net rating is almost the same as my wired internet, about 9Mbps (out of possible 10, but I never get that in any case).

It sticks out a bit further than I'd like--about 1.25 inch, but I suppose that will give it better range, and it's really not a bother. Hot swaps in and out like a champ. The only concern I have is that it runs a bit hot. After 10 min or so of use, I can feel the heat through my laptop's front. I popped it out and used an infrared thermometer, reading of 105 degrees. Not really worrisome. The fan air coming out with ethernet only can be 103 degrees or so anyway.

I'm only using the 2.4GHz band, but nice to know the 5GHz is available too. Overall, an excellent experience, and it will hopefully last better than my built-in adapter did.

MacBook Pro 4.1 Wireless Internet Expresscard

Wireless internet connection with a MacBook Pro 4.1 running OSX 10.9.2 had become increasingly unreliable with frequent drop-outs. Thinking the OEM internal Airport Express card was going bad I ordered the Linksys WEC600N Expresscard to replace the OEM card instead of opening up the computer to change it out. The WEC600N worked flawlessly for a few days then started having the same problems as the Airport Express card. After some additional trouble shooting a software glitch was found to be the real problem. After correcting the software problem all is well again. I kept the Linksys card because it seems to operate a bit faster than the OEM card although I now have the option to use either card. The Linksys card installed easily without using the included Linksys software. After inserting the Linksys card into the MacBook Pro Expresscard slot, the computer restarted itself. The Linksys card was recognized as "Wireless 2" on the internet connection list in "System Preferences" > "Network". After turning the card on it linked up automatically and became functional after a few seconds. Job Done!

I purchased this adapter because I wanted to use the the expresscard slot and the adapter wouldn't protrude as much as the USB I was using. I read every article and comment about the expresscard slot and decided make use of adapter in my Hp 6000. These Laptops are known for a motherboard / WIFI problem. I shut down the laptop, inserted the adapter, powered up the Hp and the adapter was installed automatically by Windows 7 Professional. The adapter was fast and. I had a very strong signal down stairs in the room farthest away from the router. The laptop was used normally. It was powered on and off daily. I watched you tube videos without the slightest glitch. I was able to share our printer while working outside.
I was very pleased for seven (7) days. That last morning I powered up as usual and watched the Hp loose wifi. The adapter was just warm (not hot) as some reported. I rebooted and the adapter had disappeared. I restored the computer to three days prior and the adapter was still absent. I used a friends HP with the same expresscard slot, nothing, the adapter had died. I must admit it was fast and worked flawlessly those seven days I don't know if it's the adapter, the slot or both. I will use my no name wireless N usb adapter for now until I replace the laptop. I wouldn't recommend using the exprescard slot for wifi. I was able to RMA for a refund.
"UPDATE" I decided to try the adapter in a third laptop, just to be sure. I went through the usual steps as described before. It worked perfectly. SO IT IS SAFE TO SAY THE EXPRESS SLOTS WERE DEFECTIVE the in these two laptops. Both were HP's and the third was a Dell so--?

Works on Windows 7, don't use CD

I just bought this, so I don't know how well it works overall. This is just a review to say that it DOES work with Windows 7, and so far it's working fine.

I bought this for my mom's laptop. Her HP motherboard has manufacturing issues, but we found out too late. Figured it was cheaper to buy a wireless adapter rather than spend few hundred to have the laptop shipped and repaired, especially since everything else works fine.

She has an HP dv9000 laptop, with Windows 7 Ultimate (I believe it's 32-bit). Initially I tried to follow the directions in the box (which says to start setup from CD BEFORE connecting the expresscard adapter; box also does not mention compatibility with Windows 7). This caused a few issues and although it connected with our router, it wouldn't actually connect to the internet.

There have been reviews that say that there is no driver for this expresscard for Windows 7. There IS a driver, but it's difficult to find online and it's definitely not part of the CD that comes with the adapter (nor will you find it on Cisco/Linksys's websites).

In the end I grabbed my own USB wireless adapter and used that to hook her laptop up to the internet. Then I connected the WEC600N expresscard to her laptop, and Windows Update found the driver and installed it automatically for me. So, as long as you don't use the CD and have another form of internet to find the driver online, it's definitely compatible with Windows 7.
