As the title says, I bought it for my new Dell XPS, which is running Windows 7, 64 bit. Previous to this computer, I had another Dell, with a Dell-supplied wireless adapter, and was getting the most annoying error messages about driver problems. So annoying, in fact, that after Dell sent someone out to replace the motherboard (didn't help), I decided to return it for another model. On the new one, I got it without a wireless adapter, and researched which were compatible with win 7/64. It was between this and a d-link model. Both have their rave reviews and their rotten reviews. Decided to go with this one because one reviewer specifically said it worked with win 7/64 (as did Microsoft's compatibility website). Tried installing it without the driver software, unsuccessfully. Restarted with the disk in the computer, so it auto-ran, and everything installed fine. No error messages about drivers! Went to Microsoft's website and followed their link to the win 7/64 drivers for this card, and downloaded that. No error messages! It does not get as good reception as I would have thought it would, given the 2 antennae and the glowing reviews (fewer bars than the Dell supplied, double antenna model on the previous computer set up in the same place in my office). Fiddling with the direction of the antennae has improved that to an acceptable level. One day my internet kept dropping, and I was worried I was trading one error for another, but it hasn't happened since that day. I am also, as recommended by several techs, not downloading any updates unless they are the "important" ones; if it ain't broke, I don't need a download to fix it and potentially muck up the whole works.
So, bottom line, if you have win 7/64, this card will work with that software. That's what I wanted, that's what I got.
UPDATE: Over time, I had more and more problems with the adapter. specifically, my connection kept dropping, despite proximity to the router and adjusting the router to "full power". It was driving me insane to have to close out all windows start my browse over again, and re-connect every time I started up the computer in the morning. I decided that none of the wireless adapters got across the board good enough reviews. Instead, I changed tack and bought a
Western Digital WD Livewire Powerline AV Network Kit
setup. No more dropped connections, no more closing out windows. Lesson learned. Livewire for me from now on.
