- Reviewed in the United States on July 30, 2013$29.95, no shipping, no tax for a refurb router as good as new?? I'll take it!!
I bought this 'cause my 20 yr old college daughter is downloading onto 2-3 laptops at any given time and using the wi-fi on her smartphone, also. My ISP is TWC roadrunner turbo.I was using a cisco wrt120n which had always performed well but couldn't keep up anymore. This N-300 handles it all well, and I can even use my own laptop again. Setup was easy, the factory software setup is really easy to use. I then setup my old wrt120n as an access point on the other end of my house, that is working well also. (don't try this unless you know routers well, it is not that easy and there is no setup software to help you.) This is a really good deal! Don't let "refurbished" shy you away from these products, many of them were returned to the stores & to factory in perfect condition, it was the complete novice who couldn't set it up that brought it back and said "this piece of crap doesn't work, I want a refund." Then the router is thoroughly tested & repackaged for sale at a bargain price for the rest of us.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 19, 2013This router has been rock solid for over 5 weeks. I haven't had to reboot it once. All of my devices connect (Roku, iPod, iPhone,iPad, Apple TV, various laptops, IP Camera, Brother printer, Xbox 360) without any issues. I have had compatibility issues with assorted routers - very frustrating as I have so many different devices from different manufacturers. The range is good but not great. I had a Netgear with greater range but it was unreliable and all of my devices would not connect. The latest firmware works well and I have no speed issues. My only minor gripe is the way that the guest network is implemented. It requires a login page like at a public hotspot. I would prefer not having a password at all with a segregated network for guest access. I haven't installed DD-WRT but I have that firmware on another Rosewill router and that extends my network in bridge repeater mode.
I really can't complain at all and the price of less than $30 makes this a good deal.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 2, 2012This router worked great while it lasted... Died after 6 weeks. Spent hours unplugging, rebooting, and upgrading firmware to no avail. Couldn't even get it to work as a switch.
I chose this router since I don't transfer large files within my own network and the maximum speed I currently get from my ISP is roughly 3 Mbps... Which means I don't need anything too fancy. I wasn't able to test it's advertised throughput capacity (300Mbps) since the wireless card in my netbook maxed out at 150Mbps; however, I could get 150Mbps quite frequently from the other side of the house. (~50 ft through 3 rooms) When my roommates were home and started using their legacy wireless b/g devices it would usually drop down to 72-54 Mbps.
It is important to note that in order to achieve these speeds I set the radio to "Mixed Mode" to utilize channel bonding and manually set the channel to 1. I also disabled WMM under Qos. Also, make sure you know what the maximum transfer speed of your wireless card is before you return a router deemed to be "broken." Many older wireless cards have a maximum throughput speed of 54 Mbps. My netbook is less than 2 years old yet it can only get 150 Mbps. On a side note I recommend downloading the InSSIDer program to help you determine which channels work best for your router. It is pretty straightforward and easy to use.
I have a slightly different perspective than others who are unhappy with their low price-point routers. I am actually far more surprised when less expensive routers fail than with expensive ones. High end routers are far more complicated and complex... meaning that there is far greater potential for hardware failure, despite the old axiom "you get what you pay for." Think of "cheap" routers like a salad, or a grilled cheese sandwich... They're pretty hard to screw up!
The fact that this router is re manufactured means that it has been inspected AT LEAST 2x and deemed healthy enough to sell to a customer. If you can't make a simple no frills router that lasts a couple of years let alone SIX WEEKS, then you're just wasting my time and money.
You would have to really twist my arm to convince me to buy another Cisco product again.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2013Don't let "refurbished" in the name discourage you from this product. This is my second one, a gift for a family member. My first one has been running strong for over a year now, and am extremely pleased.
First, it ships in a well packaged box to protect it until it gets to your home. Second, it takes less than 2 minutes to set it up and have your entire home running on Wi-Fi. Third, there's no lag when sharing videos or music inside the network, and connectivity remains strong, no matter where you are in the home, even on another floor (I have two floors, not sure how many levels it can go through, but the bedrooms have decent signal strength, and the downstairs area is very good, since it's upstairs).
Ease of use is enough for most people to desire any Cisco product, and out of the box, it's set up to use WPA-2 security, which is the industry recommended and highest security type available for home wireless. This "refurbished" model is a great way to get an amazing router at a very low price. And it's still backed by the same manufacturer warranty. You won't be disappointed in buying this when compared to similar devices in it's class. High level of quality, small amount of money. Definitely a great buy!
