UPDATE 6 months later: I thought the nylon band would get softer and form to my wrist better as it is pretty stiff. This has not happened so I bought a $20 black leather band with white stitching for the watch. It looks even better and is much more comfortable. I still give this watch a 5 start but you may want to consider switching out the band for something that forms better to your wrist.
Why I like it:
Stylish without being flashy. The all-black look is a bit 'navy seals' but there are enough styling cues to make it look classier and more "high-end rugged" than the price would indicate (i.e. it cold be a $1,000 Swiss Army watch). Although it could be a military watch, you could wear it to a job interview as well.
Quality. Everything about the watch feels solid, the buttons have good resistance without being hard to push, and the fit and finish are excellent (not quite a Tag but you're also not spending $6,000).
Practical. Unlike some other chronograph watches with all sorts of dials and buttons, this watch has enough visual interest and a functionality without being overly complex or busy. I didn't want to read 50 pages of instructions just to set the darn thing. All the functions are obvious and easy to use without having to read the manual. Also, the hands are glow-in-the dark if the watch is exposed to light during the day.Read more ›
With its nylon strap and sturdy build, I have a feeling this is going to be a nice rugged daily driver. The black nylon strap with reinforced holes adds some character and imparts a more casual and sporty look that I find quite appealing. I can only imagine what some nice 2-color or even 3-color NATO straps will look like attached to its 22mm lugs. And if you want to dress it up, the watch will work equally well in a leather strap and will be able to complement business casual attire.
The only thing lacking is a sapphire crystal, but at this price point, I don't think you can expect such luxuries. Mineral crystal is fine for daily wear - just be careful not to scrape the face on hard rough surfaces or drop the watch on its face.
Also, ignore the 2-star review. He was talking about a protective film covering the back of the case and didn't realize it wasn't a sticker.
What made me decide on this watch was the eco drive. I have a Citizen's Air Diver watch which is also an eco drive. I love that the watches do not need a battery and are charged by natural and artificial light. Too many times in the past I've pulled a watch out of my collection only to find that it's battery is dead.
While I've had this watch only a couple of days I can already tell that I will be wearing this one often. I love the look, not too formal, yet not too casual.
Other reviews cover the technicalities pretty well, so I won't be diving into those details.
And yes, this is a real Citizen's watch. The logo on the back case is covered by a plastic protective sticker. Once removed, you can see the Citizen's Eco Drive logo etched into the case.
For the price this is an excellent buy.
