Have had this watch a year now. Build quality is solid. It's not the lightest watch I own and viewed from the side, it's "thicker" than your normal watch. Then again, it's supposed to be a Diver's watch up to 200m. I love the "matte" finish so it's not too bright and not too reflective. The blue rubber strap takes some getting used to, but if you do a lot of diving, it's great. It's got plenty of length to wrap around a wetsuit and certainly will fit a large wrist. As mentioned it has a cool little decompression dive table printed on the band. I switched it out for a more traditional metal band. My only complaint is that the curved end of the my metal band doesn't reach snugly up to the watch (see pic), but that's not the fault of the watch.
I love the large non-numerical dots. The orange lined minute hand is unique and stands out making it easy to quickly read the time against the beautiful blue face. The second hand hits every second hash mark spot on! It keeps excellent time and is not fast nor slow. My rotating bezel is *tight* and not the easiest to rotate if you don't hold onto the ridged areas, but that's ok because it tells me that the bezel is well designed and will last. Love the luminescence! Something that I've read and confirmed... the hands and non-numbers glow "blue" but the dot on the bezel is a light green (see pic). A nice touch by Citizen to make that a different color.
As others have mentioned the date window could be a little bigger but I thought it was a very cool to line up the crown and the date window and have them both at the 4 o'clock position instead of the typical 3 o'clock. The crown also has to "unscrew" before using... a sign of a real diver's watch :) You will be hard pressed to find similar build quality and luxury at this price point. I look forward to enjoying this timepiece for many many years. What else is there to say?!? Get it! You will love it!
Fit and finish is beyond what one would expect at this price point.
The second's hand hits all the chapter ring indices, the bezel and bezel insert are aligned correctly.
The dial is a light blue-grey whilst the aluminium bezel insert is almost black, but under certain light is a sky blue, the dial also has this "colour-change" under variable lighting conditions.
The Diver's bezel has firm clicks, sixty of them.
The blue urathane strap is firm, has a 'no-decompression' dive table and is a bit long but is easily swapped for any type of strap or bracelet with a twenty millimetre [20mm] width.
The watch is a larger "homage" to a Citizen automatic 200M Diver's watch released mid 1990's; the NYxxx series; and as the original this Eco-Drive is a true ISO 6425 certified Diver's 200M watch. I pined after my NYxxx Diver's, "if only 'they' made this in Eco-Drive" I said to myself oft...and now they have.
This watch was an instant desirable and sought after classic when the NYxxx launched...the Eco Drive light driven technology brings the classic looks into the twenty-first century.
But otherwise this is a really cool watch. I'm not a diver and only bought this watch because it looks so cool. Very heavy and I'm going to replace the band with something lighter and more comfortable. But a really great looking watch and it will be nice to never have to worry about battery replacement.
The plastic band is a lot softer and pliable compared to my 15 year old promaster watch and it does not pinch my skin where the waves are.
I like the large lume markings and hands which are easy to see.
It feels light and comfortable, and battery does not need to be replaced.
For all you lume fans, the dial markers and hands are blue. The dot on rotating bezel has green lume.
The blue colour really makes the watch. The time is very easy to read, as it should be in a dive watch. Lume is excellent and the sweep seconds are not obscured by hour markers, also critical in a dive watch.
Bezel operation is smooth and one-way, 1 click per minute.
The band is printed with ND times, as in the original divers models. Screw-down crown.
I haven't been in the water with it yet, but I have no doubt that it will be a credit to it's bloodline.
The dial size is modest, by today's standards and will look good at the beach, or with a suit.
