Since its foundation in 1930, CITIZEN has promoted a multi-cultural mindset that fosters excellence and creativity. The very name of the brand conveys a deep respect toward craftsmanship and considered as familiar by citizens the world-over. So as a “citizen” of the world, we bear the responsibility to help cultivate a culture of positive change and on-going evolution through our craft. We take that mission seriously and steadfastly welcome what the future may bring.

As a true manufacture d’horlogerie, CITIZEN integrates a comprehensive manufacturing process from creating individual components to a watch’s final assembly. It’s an artisan’s approach to watch making based on pushing forward the boundaries of technology and leveraging our experience toward exploring new possibilities.

One pivotal technological breakthrough was the development of a light-driven watch. CITIZEN pioneered this engineering innovation well ahead of other watch manufacturers as early as 1976, which led to the launch of the highly acclaimed Eco-Drive in 1995. Utilizing electrical power converted from virtually any light source, this extraordinary innovation changed forever the way watches could be powered. Eco-Drive eliminated the need to ever replace batteries, which made it especially beneficial to areas where such specialist batteries were not obtainable. This leveled the field for citizens of virtually every country to be able to experience unrestricted joy of wearing and using a CITIZEN watch.

The product development policy, “The Fusion of Technology and Beauty,” remains a constant motivation for us to merge cutting-edge technology with perfection of design beauty, which as a consequence inspires people to strive to be their best at any time.

CITIZEN launches a new campaign in collaboration with Wieden+Kennedy, Better Starts Now. This is the simple belief that no matter who you are or what you do, it is always possible to make something better — and now is the time to start doing it. We believe that better and now are both infinite, and that there is always a next ‘better’ and a new ‘now’ in which you can start pursuing it. It was clear from the onset of this project that we are dedicated to this ideal…not to the past but to the present, and all the way we can improve it. To help communicate this belief to the world we have created a new global CITIZEN brand movie, brand identity and brand website that represents out Better Starts Now philosophy.

Went out looking at my "Holy Grail" watch, the Omega Sea Master Aqua Terra Ryder Cup Captain's watch. White dial, blue hands. The AD wanted $6,600 for it, with no discount. Since I didn't want to go to divorce court buying it, I went to another close by watch retailer, Arizona Fine Time.

I looked at several watches there, the new Orient Star Standard Date, which looks like an Aqua Terra clones, teak finish dial and all. He then showed me this model Citizen.

This watch knocked my socks off, the fit and finish looked almost as nice as my $3,000 Tag Heurer. The watch has a new in house movement, a nicely decorated Miyota 9010, which is automatic, with hand winding, hacks, has quick date adjust, is 100m WR, has inside and out AR Sapphire crystal on both the dial and the case back. Looking at others comments about this watch on forums shows that this watch has phenomenal accuracy, some report getting + 2 seconds fast, a WEEK, not a day. The watch comes with a Citizen 5 years warranty.

This watch my not be an Aqua Terra, but it is 95% of one, at 15% of the price $750 out the door, tax included.

I liked it so much, I ordered a the black face model as well.

5/25/2013 After owning this watch for three days, I synchronized it to my Radio Control Citizen which is accurate to the exact second of the Atomic clock, every day.

The last two days the white dial model has been running at an astounding +-0 seconds a day, and the black dial one -3

This is the most accurate automatic I have ever seen.

6/7/2013 Watch has now run at +-0 seconds for almost a week. It will speed up a second or two if you place it crown up when going to bed a night, crown down it stays dead on, amazing!

9/7/2013 Watch was on winder for approximately 2-1/2 weeks. When I took it off to wear, it was an astounding +1 second fast?? +1 second for 2-1/2 weeks, the majority of my quartz watches are not that accurate!

Between its striking good looks (photos don't do it justice), build quality, comfort, and accuracy, this watch has immediately become my favorite.

There has been a lot of discussion regarding the accuracy of the movement so here is my experience so far:

First, the watch -- at least my example -- now ships with the 9011 movement (I don't know what's changed from the 9010.)

After its first 10 days of service -- including three to four days of wearing, a couple days in a winder and the rest sitting face up in a watch box -- it has gained a total of 39 seconds. Less than four seconds per day variance is phenomenal for any mechanical watch, no matter the price.

It would be a challenge to find a better watch overall particularly at this price point. In fact, if it had a "SWISS MADE" label on it, it would be considered a bargain at twice the price.

This watch is, arguably, one of the best bang for the buck watches out there. It is a very flexible piece and the quality is first rate. Nice decoration and interesting details. Accurate, runs reliably, comfortable bracelet (uses screws). Oneof my favorites.

I have the silver face with blue hands version of this watch and I can say it's even more impressive in person. The craftsmanship and quality of this watch rival those costing thousands. The amount of detail and finish is well above the average and the automatic movement is very reliable. I'm regulating to about +2 seconds a day. The band is also very high quality and uses screw pins so, if you have a kit, sizing is a breeze. I have received numerous compliments on this watch from family, friends and coworkers.

The Signature series by Citizen are fine watches by any standard. High end components, materials, functional, well designed and hand assembled, they compare well against all comers. I purchased this one while out of the country and I am very glad. I was looking for another watch without a battery. I have a Rolex, antique Zenith automatic and also a Signature Octavia (with Eco Drive) I bought a year ago. I have a Invicta too, but it has a battery. I love the Eco Drive concept of no battery and it charges with any light. I was thinking about getting another, but the designs were very similar to the one I already have. Then I saw the Grand Classic Automatic. It is simple and elegant. The dial is easy to read. The finish is stunning to me and I was immediately interested. So, now I own it and it's a great watch. It is as nice as my Rolex without question. I don't care about names though, I just like the level of quality and the design/appearance. It has a window on the back to see the movement and that's pretty cool too. Signature watches are really very nice. I suspect they will last for a long, long time and continue to look good.

I got the black dial version. This watch actually replaced my Breguet Transatlantique which is literally 14x more expensive as the Citizen is a better watch. I collect many watches, JLC, IWC, etc etc... up to pieces costing $20k but this watch just really impressed me. A dress watch with high beat Miyota movement and crown operation that's smoother than any ETA based swiss watch and has water resistance similar to a diving watch. The undecorated movement I think is better than Zenith's elite and equal to JLC's. Sapphire crystals top bottom. The finishing and detailing on the case is similar to my Carl Bucherer and Grand Seiko. Considering you can get this for under $600 on the street it's just amazing. I think nothing touches it up to $2500.

    So what are the cons?
    1) No day indicator but this is extra and unnecessary to most people
    2) To turn this into a real high end watch you must replace the el cheapo bracelet it came with. They always cut corners on the straps and bracelets like Orient watches. Replace it with crocs or shell cordovan straps and you basically have a $2-3k watch on your wrist.
    3) The high domed crystal can look a bit distorted on a sharp angle.
