The first third of the book provides an introduction to citizen science, offers first hand accounts from citizen scientists and project leaders, and describes the benefits to families, communities, and science that come from public participation in science.
The bulk of the book is a 100+ page directory of citizen science projects, divided by subject. Each entry contains a brief overview of the project, as well as details like the age range, time of year, geographic region, and fee (there usually isn't one) associated with the project. The directory also contains a list of additional book references for people who want to learn more about a particular subject area.
This is a well-written, clearly organized reference book jammed full of useful information. I strongly recommend it to anyone interested in exploring citizen science.
