About the Author

Brian O'Neill is a former gang investigator. He lives near Tacoma, Washington, with his wife, where he plays sloppy rhythm guitar in a cover band and mediocre hockey at the local rink. O'Neill is working on his next book in the Cassidy series.

O'neill's story is graphically told as he discloses the angst of Michael Cassidy, a police detective trying to balance his troubled private life and his skilled professional life during the grisly grind of a murder investigation and the tensions that are ever present, not only on the mean streets but in law enforcement also. Whew!
As childhood loyalties are disrupted, everyone is suspect, and dark sides are revealed!

Couldn't Put It Down!

I requested this book from NetGalley for two reasons. One, it's a police novel, and being a retired law officer, I'm attracted to the genre. Two, it's set in Tacoma, Washington, and I currently live just north of there.
I'm very glad that I was given the opportunity to read and review this. It's a great "who-done-it". It's unusual, because it's not your typical "shoot-em-up", with a hero police officer. Rather, this is a thoughtful, insightful, and intriguing look into a slightly troubled, complex, thoughtful, but "average" detective. I worked with a lot of people just like the main character.
The story centers around several drug-related murders. The main one being of a fellow police officer. The author really makes the reader feel like he is there, at the scene. You're left feeling like you are living the story through the eyes of the detective.
But again, it's not your over-exploited CSI or NCIS story. You experience the doubts and confusion of the main character. And really begin to feel for him.
As for the ending, WOW! I did not see it coming. Totally unexpected, shocking, surprising! It left me feeling wrung-out, exhausted, yet fulfilled.
I really hope the author continues writing books like this one! It was great!
