This game has been shut down. If you purchase this product you are literally buying a shiny coaster that comes in a pretty red and blue box. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT unless you are looking to decorate your room with old video game boxes.

The one star is for NCSoft: Why is NCSoft allowed to SELL a game that they shut down November 30, 2011? This is outrageous.

If this game were still up and running, I'd give it five stars (ten if I could!), but NCSoft should not be allowed to profit from a dead game. Period.

The submitter below me is wrong, you only need to pay a single subscription fee to play both City of Heroes and City of Villains, all you need to do is set up your account and add the code for the second game to the current game once you've set up the first. Two awesome games, one 15 dollar subscription fee. NCSoft support is awesome for helping customers sort this out.

I'm not really a fan of MMOs but I have to say I've been continually impressed with the City of franchise providing innovative and fun play, interesting character archetypes, and probably the best character builder in any game. I'm also impressed with their continued dedication to free game updates instead of paid box updates for new content.

With the addition of Inventions in April, 2007 you really begin to feel like a super hero or a devious villain, able to craft new enhancements to make your powers more robust and awesome. Veterans awards also make me feel appreciated as a customer for my continued play of the game by rewarding me a new costume piece, or item for every 3 months of play. (I'm at 18 now ^_^).

If you're looking for a fun game, low on gore violence (I consider it to be PG-13), that teaches good lessons for kids (especially in city of heroes), and lets you play out a childhood dream of being a good guy or a bad guy, this is definitely it.

The City of Heroes/Villains last day of service was November 30, 2012. You can no longer play this game; the servers are shut off.

The ONLY reason to buy this is for diehard fans as a collectible item.

NCSoft has closed this fun game down. These games are now just fancy paperweights. It was fun, it was a good time and I loved the place. No more!!!

This game, as well as all City of Heroes games, should not be sold or purchased. NCSoft shut down the game and Paragon Studios that ran it on November 30, 2012. Amazon needs to pull all City of Heroes games from sale because it is a product that no longer works.

City of Heroes is a massively multi-player online role-playing game...but don't hold that against it. If you've tried one of these types of games lately, then you know they can be clunky, hard to get into, slow-paced, and prohibitively time-consuming. You're also probably accustomed to how they start you off as some pathetic wimp who literally can't walk and chew gum at the same time and must spend hours swinging at snakes and rats before he or she gains any reasonable amount of proficiency as an adventurer. But City of Heroes isn't like this. It lets you create your own unique superhero who starts off strong and grows much stronger as he or she keeps taking down Paragon City's ruthless criminal element. The game is attractive and accessible and features big, fast-paced battles. Above all, it succeeds at bucking most of the genre's bad trends, and this is an amazing accomplishment. Yet, City of Heroes is so streamlined that it actually feels rather stripped-down in some respects; admittedly, there's really not much more to the game beyond battling lots and lots of packs of computer-controlled bad guys. So it might not have what it takes to keep you glued to your PC for the next five years (especially not at $15 a month after the first 30 days), but for a while, it sure is fun.

One of the best things about City of Heroes is that it's not like other online RPGs. It's easier to get into, it's faster, and often times, it's simply more enjoyable.

The best thing about City of Heroes is that it genuinely offers the thrill of discovery--something that is fundamentally uncommon in gaming, since most games are closely modeled on established genres.

I originally purchased this game and started playing this game during beta, in 2004. through the first year in 2005. Due to Financial budget, plus school and work, I had to stop. At first i didn't really miss it. Only the past few months or so. After the Great Character customization in Obivion. Playing on XBL, I really missed the world of Paragon. So with my situation improved. i repurchased the dualpack. The only difference now instead of playing on a desktop, i am playing on a laptop. With the finger pad in the middle. its a complete change to my trackball. Still the game is fun. the grouping is great. and I am pleasantly surprised at the additions, bases. Recipes, Salvages, the Entire COV is great. I wish both COV and COH were combined. Maybe they are? But still great game.
I did try to use my 360 controller. but found a) the right analog stick inoperable, and after downloading a program to remap. I prefered keyboard and mouse, so now i picked up a trackball, as my old pc and trackball are packed away. Still i would prefer it on a pc. But traveling to COH/COV on my laptop is enjoyable. and definatly do not regret rebuying the game. I even recreated my same hero, with additions to and origin story to the 2 yr hiatus. from 2005 to 2007...
See you all in Paragon
