This spin off series grew on me the more I read. It's a shame that this is the last book slated for the series because I am really falling in love with Amber and Irix, which, knowing so much about Amber and Irix, probably wouldn't be a problem for them. Their relationship has developed and blossomed throughout the course of the series far more than either one of them probably expected in the beginning.
City of Lust finds Amber and Irix in Lake Como, Italy, where Amber will be competing for a two year enology internship. The setting is phenomenal and romantic and the locals are, mostly, friendly. Amber soon discovers that she is in way over her head for the internship competition but she doesn't get the time to study as much as she might want to because she and Irix are drawn into a Romeo and Juliet scenario and a centuries old blood feud. Amber is sympathetic to the young lovers and Irix is willing to do just about anything to keep Amber happy so the two of them combine forces to see if they can negotiate a happy ending.
On the whole, I found City of Lust to be a sweet, love story with just enough action to keep it interesting. The overall storyline ties in to the main Imp World storyline in unexpected ways, which I found interesting. There even might be one or two teasers for the upcoming Queen of the Damned embedded in the text. Also, we almost get the answer to the question of whether an incubus and half-succubus can have their very own happily ever after. Ms. Dunbar mentions in the afterward that there is a short story or novella slated for next year which will, hopefully, answer this question in more detail. I can't wait!
About this one? I can't believe Amber and Irix are so clueless! I mean it is obvious the "bad guys" are… oops, I think I won't mention that. Let's see if you figure it out. As for the rest of it? Love story, make that two of them. A little mystery and some drama, and some really great writing, and some really detailed descriptions of what sounds like beautiful country. Everything about it is typical for this author - 5 stars plus!
Minor warning: If really hot sex scenes (absolutely NOT porn) are a problem, be prepared to skip a couple of paragraphs. They're not in bad taste but they're there. Just saying…
I really enjoyed the story too. There's humor, romance, mystery, and murder; it's so compelling that you won't want to put the book down!
