Superb writing—characters are either likeable or hate-able, the plot never lags, and sentences flow like silk.
I particularly enjoyed the ending. Roberts’ treatment of “the end of days” was true to history and Scripture as well as being memorable. By that I mean, the word pictures she draws for you stay with you for days—especially the descriptions of Sheol.
I would definitely recommend this book for the YA audience. However, any adult would also enjoy it. I certainly did and I’m a great grandmother! The City has everything: historical fiction, fantasy, romance, and adventure. What more could you ask for!
An adventure filled story that brings understanding and life to Bible prophecy. Exciting, captivating. I never knew what was going to happen next. It kept me up at night reading. A good read. Very well written. - Andrew Colby, 14 years old
The City, the fourth book in the Seventh Dimension series of books, is an exciting page-turner which will keep readers engaged from beginning to end. Fans of author Lorilyn Roberts' work will continue to be enthralled by this intense supernatural thriller in which religion and science go head to head. The City is recommended for home and school libraries and has earned the Literary Classics Seal of Approval.
Roberts creates an end-times scenario in which her main characters, Shale and Daniel, travel through time and space into spiritual dimensions where they become privy to Satan's monstrous ambitions and cunning spiritual tactics. In that sense, this title reminds me of Frank Peretti's debut works, even harkening back to C.S. Lewis's "The Screwtape Letters," in which Lewis lifts the figurative curtain on the stage of spiritual warfare. By infusing her demonic spirit-characters with the malevolent will and emotions those beings actually possess, Roberts brings home the reality of the evil present in our world and reminds us of the spiritual tools we have at our disposal to combat those Satanic powers.
In the uplifting conclusion, Jesus reveals His perfect love, omnipotence and omniscience, emphasizing His soon return.
I highly recommend this series title (when read in proper sequence), especially for those whose faith is wavering in these dark and troubled times. I also look forward to Roberts' next novel in this series.
