As with virtually every engineering handbook, this work includes familiar topics such as beam and column formulas, moments of inertia, etc. It has a section on timber engineering, which includes topics such as allowable stresses and adjustment factors, wood fasteners, etc.

The main emphasis in this handbook appears to be building-construction related. Information is presented on such topics as shear in buildings, stresses in thin shells, ponding of rainwater in roofs, water pressure, stability of slopes, vibration control in blasting, and much more.

This book is a handy little referemnce to review your civil engineering degree. It is comphrensive. You do need to have been exposed to the formulas before however, or the book would make little sense. My only criticism is that the print is a bit small. Time for glasses I guess.

Good book to have in collection. Not every book can have everything you need to know in it. It takes a collection of good books and this should be one of them. This book has a lot of common use formulas. I was disappointed not to see the phase diagram but maybe I have missed it. It's written like I used to prepare my test notes which is with just enough description of the equation and a definition for each component of the equation. I'm definitely satisfied with my purchase.

UPDATE: I have been using the book a little more and it does have good value. My only issue is that the book seems to be written too formal. For example, I was looking for Phase Diagrams originally but could not find it. Turns out it is in the section titles "Relationship of Weights and Volumes in Soils". Haha, I would have never found Phase Diagrams based on that title. I ended up finding it by using the Table of Contents and going to Chapter 8 titles "Soil and Earthwork Formulas" and just flipping through it. I am going to spend some time and make my own hand notes on the Table of Contents. For the PE, I photocopied the ToC and blew it up so I would have room to write.

The book gives large ammount of formulas to work with. However, users that are working with SI units must be aware that not all formulas are accurate. It is advisable to crossreference with other literature.

Is not bad for use it as a reference, but only a few chapters like structural analysis and concrete are considerable usefull for me. If your looking for a reference for civil engineering may be this is the book; for other things like a review I did not considered useful.

To me this book is a great reference, as a young and low expirienced engineer I think the book has the basic formulas in most of the ingineering fields from highways to waste water treatment plant .
