Sit back and enjoy the ride! Melissa takes us on a journey with both main characters. Gabriella has to stop looking at the island from the eyes of a child seeing perfection to realize the island & it's culture are dying. There are no prospects for the younger generation unless they move off island. The tourist trade is high but there is nothing to sustain them for the rest of the year. Duke has to realize that there is more to life than business and short term affairs. He needs to realize that he is looking for love. Can Duke negotiate the purchase of the island without alienating Gabriella? Can she reconcile Duke's vision and her love of the island life?
I love the plot line in this book and the added element of the Greek culture. There is such a huge feeling of family & looking out for each other. Melissa's writing does this perfect justice. You are drawn into the story from the first due to the chemistry between the characters & then the give & take between them keeps you involved. The characters are well developed & realistic. The only problem is that the story keeps you enthralled & reading so intently that the next thing you know, the book is finished! And you have a long wait for the next one!!
The journey that is taken with Duke & Gabriella is amazing as are all the Braden, Remington & Seaside stories. Cameos and appearances from much loved characters are always great to see.
Melissa never disappoints. I think I have a new favorite Melissa - Duke has my heart ❤️
"'Family. Love. It seeps into every part of our lives.'"
Gabriella Liakos is an attorney based out of New York City but her heart lies with her beloved island, Elpitha Island. Elpitha Island is a small, fictional island off the coast of South Carolina and has a unique combination of cultures, combining Gabriella's father's Greek heritage and her mother's Southern ways. Much of her family still lives there and they mean the world to her but the island is losing money because it isn't much of a tourist destination and they can't keep many businesses alive.
This is where Duke Ryder comes in. He is a real estate investor and he has visions to turn Elpitha Island into a big tourist attraction, complete with hotels, casinos, you name it. However, when he meets Gabriella, he becomes so attracted to her and doesn't want to lose her over a business deal that he will do anything to make her happy.
"'If missing each other is crazy, then someone better get a straitjacket made for two.'"
As someone who loves all things tropical, I LOVED the setting in this book! Melissa Foster's descriptions made me feel like I was there on Elpitha Island and I could practically smell and taste the delicious food Gabriella's family cooks. I also love food so all of the food talk made my mouth water! Gabriella and Duke's passion sizzles from the moment they meet and their love for each other and their families is amazing. The combination of the tropical setting, the strong elements of love and family, and Gabriella and Duke's romance make this book so incredible that I would love to hear more of their story! I highly recommend this book to all Melissa Foster fans!
Duke Ryder, a real estate investor has been sent to the exclusive island of Elpithia. Here he finds family ties and roots run deep. The island had long ago been settled by Greeks as well as deep southerners. Now the culture is entwined and heavily influenced by both customs. Duke has his eyes on the prize as an investment, until he meets his tour guide and daughter of the owner, Gabriella.
Gabriella absolutely loves her native island. Her focus is to use her persuasiveness as a lawyer to help Duke loose interest in thr island resort he plans to build. After all, she is a top notch Lawyer from New York City and she has battled with the best of them.
There is chemistry and compassion throughout this book. I completely fell in love with Duke's ability to help those he cares about. His kindness and compassion for making the world a better place, blew me away! I can't wait for more from the Ryders. I loved catching up with past characters as well. Well done Melissa!
