Twitch has been called home by his grandfather because there is turmoil brewing in Avalon. The witches are trying to rise up, using a magical orb to control the jinn in their pursuit to take over. Twitch, realizing that his sister Mandy has sided with the witches, and still feeling ever the outcast, is definitely in over his head. Especially when he learns the witches plan to use him in a ritual to finish their takeover.
Jasmine finds herself addicted to vampire blood from the bite she received from Eric in Dark Desires. She must overcome the pain of heartbreak and the excruciating pain of the addiction. Set upon task after task, and once again faced with danger, Jasmine finds power she did not know she possessed. She finally comes into her true self and the reader finds themselves truly cheering for her bravery and strength, hoping that she will be the one to restore peace to Avalon.
Claimed by Magic boasts brilliantly, well-written characters such as Wyylt who exudes wisdom, Twitch's cousins; Dane, the pervy but comical Ben, and sweet Ella. All eager to help Claire in her quest to take down the head witch, Teasag, who is not only controlling the jinn but other witches as well. Teasag makes for a fearsome enemy, but there is more to her than meets the eye. Even Eric, whom we have come to love (and sometimes hate) in Jasmine's journey, is craftily obscured yet ever present in Claimed. While this book does not end on a cliffhanger, through brilliant writing and dreams of a magical new world, Marta has left us eager to see not only what is in store for Jasmine but which of this beloved characters we will get to see once more.
Claimed by Magic starts with Twitch taking Jasmine to his homeland. Up until this point we know nothing about the techno mage, except for the fact that he's addicted to sugar, can make any piece of technology do his bidding with his magic, and is a grade-A lovable pervert.
Visiting Twitch's magical home is the insight that we all needed. It not only gives the reader and Jasmine an insider's view of who Twitch is, but it comes with revelations about the rest of the series that were seriously needed.
Of course it's not all fun and games.
And ancient evil is lurking, just waiting to rise up and take back what it thinks belongs to it. And of course Jasmine gets caught in the middle.
Even though this is only the third book in the series, and the author has a lot of books slated to release, this is my favorite book.
I admired Marta in her last two books for bringing together both action, adventure, and hotness, and this book is no different. Except it is so different. Whereas both FrostBite and Dark Desires took a bit longer for the action to begin, with much mystery surrounding the characters at first, the action in Claimed by Magic begins rather quickly. There's still a mystery of course, as Marta has to keep her readers guessing as they go through the book. But you also get to see Jasmine and Twitch work together with a whole new cast of characters.
I think the reason I loved this book more than the others, not saying I didn't love the other two books, but well, it's hard not to play favorites. I loved seeing a whole new side to Twitch. Getting to see where he comes from was wonderful character development and I am all about character development. We also find something out about him that shocks and amuses me. (No spoilers)
My favorite part of Claimed by Magic came from an unexpected place. I can't say more than that, but I was messaging the author so excited that what I knew to be true finally happened. I'm not sure how other readers will feel about it, but I know how I feel. And it makes me very excited for the next few installments in The Hunter Chronicles.
If you loved the first two books, then you will love this one.
If you love magic, adventure, interesting takes on the paranormal genre, then The Hunter Chronicles is the one for you.
I am now anxiously awaiting the fourth book in the series.
Twitch, Jasmine's best friend, took her to where he grew up to get her mind off of Eric. She had been moping around for weeks because Eric broke her heart and left her jobless. Avalon, Twitch's hometown, is where all magical creatures with the exception of vampires live. Vampires being there is against the law, that's one of the reasons Twitch brings Jasmine there and the other reason his presence was requested by his grandfather.
All is not as it seems in Avalon there are factions vying for magical supremacy. And you can't forget Eric, he is in disguise because vampires are not allowed in Avalon. Twitch's grandfather is the head of 3 magical houses and Eric is there on a favor to him because of his vision that there will be trouble in Avalon. In doing the favor, what Eric doesn't count on is to run into Jasmine. He is so conflicted over his feelings for Jasmine. Will Eric reveal himself to Jasmine? Will Jasmine find her inner confidence that Eric has shredded in time?
