The non-spoiler review is that it was a good story that moved quickly. I liked the main characters as well as the peripheral characters who were written to leave you wanting to know so much more about them. The story was overly predictable (at least to me). Sometimes I think it must just be me because nearly every romance book I read follows the same formula - and I don't read that many of them! So, maybe I just have unrealistic expectations about wanting a book that doesn't follow a "script." Anyway, overall it was a good story and I will definitely check out the next in the series.

As I mentioned above, I'm a HUGE fan of Laurann's New Species series. About 1/3 way through this book I found myself getting kind of ticked off because I felt that I was reading a New Species book where the characters had just been changed to werewolves. It's sometimes subtle, but I see a lot of parallels. What irritates me so much about this is that I, and a lot of other New Species fans, have been waiting a really long time for specific NS characters to be given their own book. Many feel jilted with the last book in that series "Numbers." Now with the release of this book I'm just feeling a bit slighted as a fan. Part of me is looking forward to another book in the Nightwind Series but another part of me is wary about becoming invested in another series.
Overall, I found it to be fairly bland, as the characters and their story were not nearly as engaging as many of her other books. My favorite books by Ms Dohner have strong heroines, and "Brandi" just didn't cut it for me (perhaps because the name alone was giving me flashbacks to Junior High School in the 80's). I am happy to support Ms Dohner and read anything she publishes, but this one was a miss for me.
The book begins a touch scary and continues to build with the discovery of trust between two people who could not be more different. An interesting premise with colorful characters and lots of openings for future characters. I hope this will be a continuing series to see what happened nd will happen to the pack and their co-alphas and let's not forget the lovely barkeep. I think there is a great story waiting to be told.
