About Claire Ladds
A former teacher, Claire has a MA in English and a passion for Agatha Christie books and films which began at the age of ten when her dad bought her The ABC Murders. She has been obsessed with all things dark and mysterious ever since. She is also fascinated by mythology, psychology and anything just a little bit...strange, all of which influence her work to some extent.
Claire's favourite story in her collection, The Reason for Everything, is the one with the same title as the book: not only did it win a beautiful trophy from the National Association of Writers' Groups, but it made the judge cry!

London, 6th March 1971. Women pour into London to take to the streets in solidarity for equal pay and equal rights. But while public spectacle and a friendly call to arms pervades the day, in private, one family is about to find that everything they thought was the truth about their loved ones has the potential to blow their world apart. And one man, back from the dead, has unfinished business with them…
A novel of dark secrets, lies, betrayal and vengeance, in which the shadows of history, haunting memories and the truths they dare not tell come back to try and destroy them.
When the truth is not what you thought it was, do you ignore it? Do you try to rewrite history to protect those you love? Or do you seek revenge?
A short story collection full of the emotion, darkness and the unnerving parts of human existence we often prefer to keep hidden - even from ourselves.
Everyone has something that drives them. Terrifies them. Pushes them to extremes. Everyone has something that eats into their existence. Women whose domestic struggles hide much deeper concerns and dangers. An undertaker who goes to great lengths to preserve life as she wants it. A young woman in red who discovers a wolf with a terrible tale to tell. An affair revealed amid night-time tension and the wielding of a cheese knife. Men and women who have to battle the most dreadful parts of existence in silence.
Love, hate, fear, guilt and regret all rear their heads amid the backdrop of apparently ordinary lives, in this emotive and often dark and unnerving collection which houses a number of prize-winning tales, together with never before seen short stories.
Think about it – what, or who, is your reason for everything? And what would you be prepared to do to keep it that way?
