Suddenly and unexpectedly, Claire finds she is not alone; she has a protector, and one well-versed and skilled in magic at that, Leeson. At first she thrusts him away but neither he nor she can deny their complementary magic, and as danger blooms, so does romance blossom too.
Review courtesy of Romance Junkies:
Claire Brinawell is part witch and part Fae. When her parents died, she was sent to live in a convent orphanage. The convent tried placing her in many homes over the years, but nothing worked out once they glimpsed Claire using magic. The only constant in her life was one of the nuns, Teresa. After she passes and Claire turns eighteen, she leaves the convent and never looks back. She never would have dreamed that she would constantly be on the run from other creatures in the human realm.
After a year of living on the run, Claire is becoming exhausted, but she refuses to give into the evil beings that are hunting her down. Just when she thinks she is going to be caught, a stranger by the name of Leeson, saves her life. Leeson explains to Claire that he has been sent to find her and bring her to safety. Claire reluctantly goes with him, but is soon glad she did when she meets Teresa's sister, Grace. It seems that there is a lot that Claire does not know about herself, and Grace is there to provide some answers.
Claire has always been afraid to use her powers since bad things occur when she does, but little by little, she is learning to let go and embrace her magical abilities. Things are getting interesting between her and Leeson, but Claire has to maintain focus on the problems at hand. While Grace and Leeson are setting up a decoy to capture the demon who wants her head, Claire stays behind. Despite their efforts, Claire is attacked and kidnapped anyway. If she wants to make it out alive and get back to Leeson, Claire must awaken a part of herself that she never knew existed.
I was pleasantly surprised by author Aithne Jarretta's latest book, CLAIRE: THE LOST FAE. The title really says a lot about the novel. Claire is alone in more ways than one. She has lived her life relying mostly on herself, and in the present she has no one to look to but herself. She is a lonely young woman who had a terrible childhood and is haunted by her past when she is forced to relive it in her dreams. When Leeson comes to her aid, the tension between them is palpable. I got a kick out of their bickering. I loved how Claire tried so hard to deny the attraction between her and Leeson. It only made the story that much more enjoyable. I cannot wait to read Ms. Jarretta's next release.
