Should I apply Natural Instincts semi-permanent to dry or damp hair?

Natural Instincts semi-permanent hair color should be applied to dry hair that is free of styling product build-up, but don't use shampoo within 24 hours of coloring.

Does the length of my hair make any difference in the amount of hair color I will need?

Absolutely. If your hair is longer than your shoulders or very thick, you may need two boxes to fully saturate your hair.​

Can I mix shades?

Go for it, you little artist you. Just keep in mind for best results, mix shades no more than 2-3 shades lighter or darker than each other. Just make sure the amount of color you are mixing matches the same amount of developer.

Lately I've been noticing that the bottom of my hair is darker or lighter than the top. Why?

Girl’s got to touch up between full colorings! Get yourself some Root Touch-Up to keep the top of your hair as radiantly luscious as the bottom.

Does hair type (curly or straight, dry or oily, coarse or fine) affect color timing?

Yes! Coarse hair generally takes more time to color than fine hair. Hair that's dry or permed may absorb color quickly, too. Do a strand test before coloring your whole head to ensure you have the timing down.

First time using Clairol Natural Instinct product. I needed to use something that was not so harsh because my hair was so dried out due to having perm. I tried another brand product and it didn't cover my grey but left a copper color, which I didn't like. Did more research and decided to try Clairol Natural Instinct in covering my grey again. I found the solution to be more runny, liquid like instead of being creamy in texture. It was a little messy & drippy when applying. That is why I only gave it 4 stars. However, it spread very well. I left the solution a little longer than what was recommended. Wow, was I very surprised with the results. It covered ALL of my grey very well. It left my hair very soft and silky. My hair did not even dry out. I used black and I know it will fade out in time with washing. Will see how long the color will last. I'm very pleased with this product and the results.

This is only the 2nd time coloring my hair. 1st time was a few yrs ago.
I wish this came with instructions. All it really said was mix 1 and 2 together. Since I'm not familiar with coloring wish there were more details.
Easy to apply. Going on what others said I did it with dry hair and left it in for 20 minutes. Used an old towel to remove dye from my skin area. Was easy to rinse out.
Covered my gray hair with no problem as you see from the picture. I should have taken before pictures.
Overall I'm satisfied just wish it was a little lighter shade of brown. It looks more on the darker (black) side in real life. Looks browner in the photos.
I would use this again.

I love this colour. Naturally I have dark brown hair but my eyebrows are black. This matches my brows nicely and looks natural. My hair still feels soft after using it once dried. It doesn't feel stringy while washing either. It does bleed a lot the first few washes though so make sure to use a dark towel. I have used this colour two times now. The colour lasts a long time.
