I bought the "pale blue" which look almost grey, something I was hoping for. I was afraid they would be more of a "baby blue," but thankfully are not. I think they are very cute looking, especially compared to other waterproof shoes on the market which look too masculine for me. I really like the dark material added to the toes, heels, and tongue, as well as the white stitching.
My only concerns about the shoes are that they are very stiff and they are really hot. I have been wearing them around the house before going on my trip so I can break them in. I would not wear them for a long walk/hike right out of the box. I believe they are so hot because of the waterproof feature. I'm sure there is no way to allow them to "breath" and be waterproof at the same time.
The only reason I didn't give these 5 stars is because of the stiffness. I wish I could give it 4.5 stars.
I have not tested the waterproof capabilities yet and will update my review when I have tested it.
I have a low volume foot (skinny, small boned, long and slightly narrow) with a moderately high arch and find it difficult to find stiffer hiking-type shoes in a style that does not slip excessively behind my heel. These seem to run a little narrow, which is good for me, and do allow slight slipping in the back with regular athletic socks, but I can just get by in them with wool or light hiking socks. This really takes up space in the toes, though, making them quite snug.
It does not strike me as a serious day-hiker, but more of a light dirt-path/countryside or wet-weather shoe. I plan to use it for a trip to the UK and am pleasantly surprised at how little they weigh--just under 1 lb. 10oz. Great for keeping a carry-on under the weight limit.
If you have a medium to high arch, you'll want to replace the insole with a more supportive one. I use these Spenco Full-length arch cushions; they are inexpensive and work very well: http://www.amazon.com/Spenco-Cushion-Length-Insoles-M10-11-5/dp/B000KPMGYI/ref=sr_1_38?Read more ›
- poor arch support, but room for an insert if you remove existing insert
- not squishy and soft like a tennis shoe; much more like a hiking boot feel, minus the ankle support
- tread on soles is not great for slick surfaces, but fine for gravel and rocks, asphalt, etc.
- yay waterproof!
- not a true red, more of a burnt red/orange
- spacious in the toe box without being loose (I have longer second toe, so very helpful)
I wore these while on vacation in Europe this summer. While I wish I had worn them more before I left (a different story entirely), I found them to be great support. Sure, my feet would be tired at the end of an 8 hour day of sightseeing, but I never dreaded putting the shoes on again. Vacation was mostly city-focused, so pavement and the like with the occasional groomed trail. LOTS of stairs. :) I liked the look of these shoes too. Again, not cushy like a tennis shoe, so if that is what you are looking for, this is not the shoe for you. Definitely a firmer sole.
I would recommend these shoes to a friend.
