You will start with an overview and learn how to use many of the tools; then you will work with styles, adjustment layers, and layer masks; create web graphics and simple frames- and timeline-based animations; learn some retouching, editorial, and restoration techniques; discover how easy it is to create 3D effects from 2D text and artwork; and end with a section on special techniques, many of which are new in Photoshop CS5.

Whether you're a newbie or a seasoned professional Sue Jenkin's Complete Guide to Photoshop CS5 DVD published by Class On Demand (who has online courses I discovered at […] as well) provides a rapid pathway to learning your way around the new Photoshop CS5 in great detail. This video training course shows you everything you need to know to navigate your way around the new version -- and get right down to creating, manipulating and producing outstanding visual work -- and more, taking you many steps beyond earlier versions of the program if that's what you've been working with.
Sue Jenkins has a very enjoyable style of delivery and leads you step-by-step at a logical and easy-to-follow pace deeper and deeper into the workings of the program and the many varied image possibilities available. Sue is an accomplished design veteran for both print and web at […]. She's been working with Photoshop for nearly 20 years! Having someone that experienced guide you visually on your own screen is actually the best way to learn new things really fast. If you want to learn to do something new, get someone to show you. It's just that simple.
Whether it be styles, adjustment layers, and layer masks; or creating web graphics and simple frames, and even timeline-based animations, exercises are carefully crafted to present the many facets of the program in a logical fashion. In a clear, concise manner Sue takes you methodically forward, building lesson-by-lesson on the previous ground you've covered. You'll be guided through the necessary path of creating graphics for web or print use. More advanced lessons teach you how to create 3D effects from 2D text and artwork, and you'll learn important and useful retouching, editorial and restoration techniques.
My personal favorites in this great training course include the comprehensive nature in which the basics of the program are covered coupled with guided illustration of advanced features new to CS5 -- just mind-blowing with respect to the effects you can create. Examples range from the new Puppet Warp feature, to developing 3D objects within Photoshop through the new Repousse tools, to special new techniques for using HDRI (high dynamic range imaging) and panorama effects. For myself I can say without hesitation, that following through diligently with this Complete Guide to Photoshop CS5 DVD I will have added tremendous new proficiencies I can offer clients which take full-advantage of all that's in the latest Photoshop version.
Sue Jenkin's Complete Guide to Photoshop CS5 DVD is one of the best values in comprehensive video training I've come across, and it's the ideal way to take the new Photoshop CS5 to the highest possible level to make great things happen right before your very eyes -- and you're doing it!
Other reviewers have written glowingly about Sue Jenkins in their reviews; she is a great hostess but I want to tell you that the important stuff is in her way of teaching. The lessons are titled broadly, but as she teaches she conversationally drops in little nuggets of wisdom not directly related to the topic, but related to the user's general experience in Photoshop. For example, in one early lesson she inadvertently hit the caps lock button while doing a demo. Instead of editing the gaffe out in post-production, Sue takes the time to explain how it affected her view of the cursor. It sounds silly to mention in a review, but this particular problem has plagued me for years, and before now I never knew why. You could have seen the light bulb go on over my head!
Although I was already familiar with the Photoshop tools and interface, by just relaxing and watching her explanations I found myself picking up dozens of these kind of tips just in the first 3 lessons. By the time I reached the more advanced techniques, I felt prepared for the first time in ten years to use the masks and adjustment layers and tackle the advanced editing techniques in the tutorial portion of the dvd. I did watch and listen once through the entire lesson, before I tried to do any of the techniques she was recommending.
My favorite thing about this experience is that it changed my ideas about what Photoshop is useful for. By combining Sue's tricks using selection layers and actions I will be saving myself literally hours of time... but I'm going to watch the whole thing again first, just in case I missed anything the first few times. Looking forward to using this great holiday gift all year long, and when CS6 comes around I will be searching Sue Jenkins out to find out the scoop on the new version! Highly Recommended.
