Supervised the build with my 15 and 17 year old (each with their own kit). This was their first time soldering and after a quick class on all the components they were able to build this in about 2 hours. Not bad for not being familiar with electronics or soldering. Game play is a bit difficult because the settings are faster than the original game however this was a great introduction into kit building for the teen who already has an interest in video games or desire to learn about electronics. Kids loved building this and cannot wait for their next build. I highly recommend this for anyone wanting to introduce kit building to kids/teens. If you are looking for World of Warcraft (WOW) graphics you will be disappointed but if you want a quick and fun build with minimal effort and fast results this is the kit for you.

The instructions are not informative enough to get started. There is a youtube video of someone showing how to assemble it. I couldn't have done it without the video. There are two places that will bridge the soldering pad gap and it is supposed to. I cut and separated them and it didn't work until i bridged the gap with a screwdriver, so I had to bridge it back with solder. Game play is difficult. Later I will get the other one with knob controllers for the better playability. This was a rewarding first project, but not for learning soldering. I should have started with a learn to solder kit.

Worked perfectly on the first try! This was my second ever electronics kit, after the Velleman Brain Game. I think that was a great time for it, as it was just a bit more complicated. You'll get practice working with several different types of components, so I definitely recommend it. And, as a retro game enthusiast, it was a lot of fun to see a working and playable Pong clone on my TV, that I built!

this is a great little kit. I teach Electronics at a local High School. This is one of the kits I use to let my student get some hands on building . the directions are simple with all parts included. You need a soldiering Iron and soldier and safety glasses. I recommend helping hands to hold the PBC board. every kid who has built this kit has loved it.

This went together pretty easily; I think it took about 1.5hrs with a 5 year old "assistant" slowing me down. The instructions are not like an old Heathkit; they are geared towards someone with more experience identifying components, orienting them correctly, stuffing and soldering them to the PCB. It took me a little while to deduce that you launch the "ball" by pressing both the up and down buttons simultaneously- that is not explained anywhere in the instructions. The other issue is that even on skill level I, the ball moves quite fast, to the point of being very difficult to play; I was trying to get a volley going with someone who is an experienced video game player and we were both really struggling. Younger kids don't stand a chance. Additionally, up and down buttons are not as pleasant to use as a proportional knob type controller on a vintage pong game. All in all, it's a fun little exercise to build, it's amazing how few components are needed to build an actual video game, but the game play is a disappointment. Sometimes most of the fun of a kit is assembling it, and that was true in this case.
