Book #2 in this at least 4 book series (#4 not currently finished but announced) was every bit as good as book #1 and then some. Book #1 jumped around quickly to new unknown characters so frequently at times it was hard to follow what was going on but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. Book number 2 Greg's writing is getting more polished in the story, the side bar stories aren't as distracting and seem to tie in more directly to the main story.
To counter some of the negative comments/reviews by a couple of the reviewers... 1- This book isn't the same as the wheel of time but of course it's writer has borrowed some tidbits but Robert Jordan also borrowed plenty of ideas himself. Greg also seems to add some LDS Mormon/Book of mormon ideas into this book as well. Judge Zeesrom anybody? And 2,000 individuals praying to God for deliverance? (Sounds similar to the 2,000 stripling warriors) also the Con' Kumen are very like Gadiantons... 2- The women characters are not all weak and only there for romance... Someone looking to claim that is uninformed or just must really feel picked on. There are several very strong female characters in this book.
Read- If you love fantasy and interesting new worlds with likeable characters. This might not make the top of my fantasy list but it definately is up there. The book is much easier to follow then the Wheel of time as Parks doesn't take 1 page to describe the setting for one individual conversation.
