Product Description

The Clearaudio Nano phono stage provides real high-end performance at a true budget price. Clearaudio has achieved this breakthrough by using a simple, elegant and astonishingly effective design perspective. "The Nano is a fantastic value; offering great versatility in a tiny package for a tiny price," notes Sixmoons.com for October 2008. The printed circuit board is embedded within a massive precision CNC-machined aluminum block that forms a resonance-free chassis. The miniature size of the Nano ensures outstanding technical results and unheard of quietness within its price range. And it offers continuously variable gain from 34 dB to 67 dB. The latest sophisticated surface-mount technology is used in conjunction with precision electronic components, such as Burr-Brown (Texas Instruments) integrated circuits, and extremely short signal paths leading to a pure, hum and noise-free music reproduction. The true dual-mono design features separate left and right switches for input loading, gain control and MM / MC selection, extracting the best results from virtually any cartridge.

Recently got back into vinyl and Im very Glad I did. I matched this preamp with the Clearaudio Concept turntable. It sounds amazing and my lp hunting begins. This preamp is small has MM?MC capabilities and a subsonic filter. For only $350 Im VERY happy and cant wait to hear all of my old favorites again on vinyl. I havnt heard vinyl on a high end system before...WOW...amazing. Those of you on the fence should at least check out vinyls special sound. I have all Bryston gear and this table/preamp combo fills the room with warmth. No cd harshness that fatigues the ear after a while. VINYL LIVES;-)

This tiny mid level preamp explodes with rich dynamics from your treasured vinyl collection. Just starting to reclaim my passion for vinyl again after, for the most part a 25 year hiatus. Like most people I succumbed to the quietness of the cd format and hyped better dynamic range. I kept reading from vinyl enthusiasts of its superiority. I tried a cheap, phono stage $15:00 from a chain electronics store, and actually rediscovered some of the merits of vinyl, detail, warmth, soundstage, realism and an intangible quality hard to put into words. Consequently I became excited again about high fidelity and decided to upgrade my cartridge, and phono stage. WOW, the ClearaudioNano was a mighty sonic improvement! The transparency, detail, warmth, accurateness, punch, and overall presentation reopened a whole new world of musical pleasure! Must admit was not wowed by the small package and size of the Nano when opening it. I thought i payed $400 for this...! Don't let the small stature scare you. I'm not all or nothing when it comes to my musical formats, i enjoy and see the merits of iPods, CDs, dvd-audio, SACDs, blue ray audio, HDCDs, K2hds, audio fidelity gold discs, MOFI recordings (analogue as well as digital). Fantastic phono stage buy one today, you'll love it!!

This little gem is, indeed, a great compromise between the truly expensive phonostages and the budget models.

I purchased it because I wanted to try a MC cartridge on my system in addition to my MM cartridge and compare the two. Even though my MC cartridge has a pretty low output, I can adjust the gain control to its lowest setting and still get plenty of volume. Even at a higher setting, The NANO is dead quiet.

It performs flawlessly, and really, at least to my ears, I can't see spending $2000 and up for a slight improvement. I can't really hear the difference between different high-end wires and the less expensive kind, nor can I hear the difference between tonearms, mats, clamps, etc. If you can hear the difference between the NANO and the more expensive phonostages, then, by all means, spend the extra money. I know, I know that some audiophiles will say that I must be deaf (did they ever participate in a double-blind study?) but, for me, the NANO does just fine. In all fairness, I don't own a very expensive phonostage in which to really compare the two, but it is hard to imagine anything sounding that much better.

It does not have all of the features, perhaps, of the more expensive models, but it has enough. It can take MM and MC cartridges, has a subsonic filter capability, and offers 50, 200, 400, and 1000 ohms input matching resistors for optimal setting of MC cartridges. The standard input impedance is set at 47K for MM cartridges.
