Also, I cannot believe that after so cleverly sneaking away with the staff of Lore, an actual superweapon that can destroy planets, in this novel Alisa simply leaves it lying around for other starseers to steal. It just isn't credible. Suppose you have all your family problems to think about, but I'm handing you a suitcase H-bomb of a trillion megatons. You have no choice. If you don't take care of it first and foremost, your life and your loved ones and your planet are toast. You know that. And from her other novels, I know Buroker knows that. She just has written so many I think she has got absorbed in the details and is not making sense anymore. As other reviewers have said, I find it simply impossible to care about these characters.
They get closer this time, but I don't think it's much of a spoiler to say that book 5 of 8(?) doesn't end with Jelena happily and safely aboard the Nomad. As for the relationship between Alisa and Leonidas, that's two steps forward, one big step back. One revelation, I saw coming (though *maybe* only because I've jumped ahead to read Jelena's own first story in the "sequel series" already, not that I remembered the physical description of the person involved) — and I can guess one explanation forthcoming that should make Alisa feel better about it.
I'm trying to decide whether I want to go on to the next volume right away, or read something else in between.
