Struggle on, brave warrior, and fight through the Peanut Butter bars. Don't let them win.
I suppose you could just buy the smaller boxes of just Chocolate or Chocolate Mint, but your experience with this variety pack has left you harried, scarred and addicted to battle.
This product used to be right priced at Amazon, but now the price increased to equal that of the local stores.
Clif Bar, though, is struggling with resellers over the past year. I had a few shipments skipped last year, and then I was informed that my order was no longer going to be filled at all. The reason? Apparently the old 15%-off incentive for Subscribe and Save doesn't work well for them.
OK. I decided to go along with it and re-did my Subscribe and Save at 5% off. That worked fine - for one month. This month, I was reviewing my credit card statement and was surprised by one of my Amazon charges. I went to Amazon.com to review my orders, worried that someone had hacked my account.
No hacking. Just Clif Bar upped the price of this item by almost 60%, and went ahead and fulfilled the Subscribe and Save without a warning. Since I was having two of these delivered per month, what I thought would be a $36 charge was $56. At that price, it's much cheaper at the supermarket.
As popular as Clif Bars have become, for good reason, they need to step up and find reputable distributors. I canceled my Subscribe and Save and will miss them.
As the new price is the same (slightly more, even) than the cost per bar at Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, or any of the local grocery stores, I'll no longer lock myself in to these same two flavors. As much as I like Chocolate and Chocolate Peanut Butter, at $1.18 per bar, I could alternate between the two and not get bored with the flavors. At $1.55 (again, TJs/Whole Foods around $1.40-1.45, recently), it's far better to purchase various flavors.
On 3/26/2014, "$24.73 + $11.25 shipping" appeared as pricing for the first suggested Amazon vendor for this product. Pricing for all others on the page also equate to ~$2.00/bar.
On 3/20/2014, I purchased three different flavors of Clif Bar Builder's Bar from Wegmans. $14.99 for a box of 12 = $1.25/bar.
Totally possible Clif Bar is raising its pricing and Wegmans (et al) will increase their pricing at some point in the not-so-distant future. But for now, and solely because of the pricing, I can't give this product more than one star.
Whey protein is the better alternative to soy as it's more effective but soy is less expensive. So in that sense you get what you pay for. These bars are affordable and taste great with enough sugar to keep you going or jump start your day.
1star less for lack of whey protein.
1. They have 20 mg of protein. Less isn't a protein bar.
2. The are very consistent. I have never had a bad one.
3. They are a good size and have a good base layer that is crunchy enough that you know you have eaten something. It satisfies you.
4. The flavor layer does taste like the description on the bar.
5. All the flavors are good.
6. I was at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital not long ago and this is one of the brands they sell in the cafeteria.
I can only get a couple of flavors locally, so get most of them from Amazon.

This product uses Soy for protein. When I inquired why this is so (why not Whey or other alternative protein), I received a sales-robot response from the company. Read morePublished 6 months ago by E Sikorski
