This is a good classic Clifford book. My 2 1/2 year old knows it by heart. I could be little scary to children who are afraid of storms. Emily and her grandma have to go to a shelter - it might make kids worry too much over an oncoming storm.

I bought this book for my grandson, who is really afraid of storms. He was very happy to read how Clifford was able to be a hero and help people when a big storm came. Although he is still worried by big storms, it helps to know that he is in good company, and that there are ways to help when people are in danger.

Clifford books in our house are an absolute naptime and bedtime staple. They consistently have good themes and great teachable lessons. The great thing about Clifford books is the length; it is easy to include these books as part of a routine because they only take about 3-5 minutes to complete so you can read multiple books. The price is right also. Two thumbs up for Clifford the Big Red Dog!!

Trying to explain storms to a two or three year old is like jumping through a mine field: if you do not do it just right it will blow up in your face. This book was very helpful in broaching the subject without scaring my daughter. I would recommend this book. Regardless, if you are a fan of the Clifford series you will like this.

A Kid's Review on September 23, 2003
Format: Paperback
Clifford and the Big Storm is about a day when a Hurricane (or a Big Storm) hits the shore where Emily and Clifford are staying at for the weekend. Clifford goes out in the middle of the Storm and tries to save Emilys grandmothers house. This book teaches the lesson of courage. It also teaches that, there is nothing to be afraid of, not even a Big Storm like the one in the book; so, be brave and face the fear. The age level for this one would be about a Kindergarten- 1st grade book. This book is excellent for any child to enjoy reading or a whole family listening to it. So, I recommend this to anyone.

Now this is the Clifford book I remember as a kid... Clifford and Emily Elizabeth go and visit her grandma on the island. But a big storm comes in and they have to leave the house. Clifford knows Grandma is worried about her house so he heads back and protects the house and saves boats, other dogs and anyone he can while he's helping save her house. This is the heroic Clifford I grew up with 40 years ago

What an amazing experience Clifford and Emily Elizabeth had! Storm was brewing! Trees were bending from the wind! Lightening was flashing! Everyone had to leave the beach...They even had to venture to a shelter! My grandchildren had a real-life experience similar to this just his summer! How great to have their friend Clifford go through the same thing. Reading the story gave us the opportunity to re-live and talk about some of the same experiences they had in the comfort of our cozy home! They know Clifford's adventure was pretend, but it certainly helped them with their own real-life adventure and disappointing day at the beach.

My 2-3/4 yr old grandson loves Clifford and this is his favorite of the books now. I read it to him at least 3-4 times in the past couple visits. He can recite sections by heart. His grandfather was reading it today and misread the word "rescue" as a similar "r" word and my grandson quickly corrected him.
He repeats to me that the grandmother is "worried about her house" but Clifford saves the house and it' all "OK".
