EH Patchin lives in central Massachusetts in the virtual shadow of Mount Wachusett. Although her wooded lot is on the wrong side of the hill for a steady view, she watches the radar as summer storms from the west often part like the river Jordan to miss her home, frequently rejoining further east, on their way to Boston. Blue green in summer, frosted in winter and crowned with lights during ski season, the mountain dominates the skyline on west bound 117, and Rt 2 and from the Hannaford Parking lot in Leominster.

In the hot, dry, unending summer of 2015, “Climate Change: The Wachusett Colony” took shape in her imagination.

She has not purchased a farm on the southern slopes of the mountain itself. Yet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Insightful - a must read
By Joyce Derenas on February 26, 2019
This insightful story if a colony of people living underground in 2086 brings to the forefront one critical issue: it is ONLY with action and preparedness and not empty talk that will buffer the human race from decline. Elizabeth tends the plant beds of a small colony , working through her everyday issues that survivors would face during a world collapse. Written in a clear, straightforward, manner, E H Patchin gives us all a glimpse of what could be our future if people reach no solution to climate change. A must read for anyone is a society numb to what is possible or probable.
