I am a scientist of som 32 years working experience in both oil and gas and in protecting the environment. No its not a contradiction. My years as an enviromental consultant taught me that money drives everything. I made the distinction between an enviromentalist and and environmental scientist. Environmentalists are idealistic kids, immature adults, and lawyers. Somebody is making money at the Sierra Club and Green Peace, and it isn't the first two. Something similar goes on in the Environmental Science industry. The scientists who are trusted to study it for the colleges and government depend on their findings for their livelihood. Conflict of interest? You bet. Climategate as shown by the author was rooted in corruption fueled by this conflict of interest. Add to it the left leaning political view of the same institutions and you have a double whammy.
As a scientist who specialized in earth history and who took his share of climate and meteorology courses, my degree is an MS in Atmospheric and Earth Science with a concentration in Geology, none of this man made global warming crap has ever rung true to me. I flew in the face of everything I learned and knew about earth history.
The shear magnitude of the systems involved, the uncertainty of the measurements, everything I know about the scientific method told me it was nonesense. As the author shows, the level of political machinations, the suppression of data, the outright corruption of the scientists involved is astounding, and supports my initial intuition.
The revelations of the politics involved alone is enough to cast doubt on anything the advocates have to say. The fact that alot of the doom and gloom reports on which their whole case is made were not peer reviewed shows that any of their assertions are tenuous at best and probably outright fantasy at worst. We continue to see these kind of reports almost weekly on MSN: Polar Bears are starving, losing their hair, and can't get cable TV all because of MMGW. All assertions are based on selective reporting, biased and unsubstatiated science.
The sad thing is a lot of people who really truly need to read this book will never pick it up. I doubt a lot of the one and zero star reviewers ever bent the binding of the book. They took one look at the title and began their rant. The Author does a great job in documenting the lies of Al Gore, the political posturing and maneuvering of the Liberal One Percent and how they drive their illiterate minions like cattle to the polls to vote in support of their agenda. These people we know are so stupid and misled that they do not even realize that they are undermining their own standard of living, and not for the betterment of mandkind, but to enrich the few that lead them around by the nose, and they are not Republicans.
But the discussion is like the one over religion, no one will convince the other that they are wrong or right. They just argue. Too bad. I work in a scientific profession and not ONE, not a single ONE of my coworkers who have a science degree, believes in MMGW. We see it for what it is, a political agenda. Notice I didn't say anything about my uneducated co-workers. My receptionist, secretary my janitor, the gal who wipes up the counter and changes the toilet paper in the lavatories, they all believe it to be true, but then they believe the the Virgin Mary can be see in a smudged window, or a tortilla.
My advise is keep an open mind, read the book. The Author makes a convincing case about the utter corruption underlying the cause.
And I was around during the "Coming Ice Age" and remember my father saying that the cold cellar needed to be really full in case we weren't able to plant the garden during the upcoming years..... Well we had great weather and great crops, and had a lot of food left over when the snows melted early the next year!
Guess my dad learned something back then.....the three news channels were nothing more then fearmongering the peoples. Same as today.....
Get the book. You'll enjoy the whole thing!!!
