Ms. Smith captures the very essence of love in all its joy and pain; she is able to convey how much love can hurt and how it can lift your spirit and change your life. What a marvellous trilogy that of Her British Stepbrother! And I hope that the epilogue means that we can look forward to a little something more, because I am dying to read more about it... You will get no spoilers from me, but when you read it, I just know you'll feel the same way! And Lauren Smith's magnificent writing is a gift to cherish: those sublime sentences that you need to read again and again for the sheer joy of experiencing emotions perfectly put into words.
I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Many of the secondary characters were wonderful as well, especially Lizzy, Carter, and Celia. I was disappointed how badly Kat's father took the news of her and Tristan's relationship, but I could understand where he was coming from. There were definitely a few heartbreaking moments, but I couldn't have been happier with the outcome to Kat and Tristan's story. It didn't end the way I expected it to, but I was pleasantly surprised by the conclusion and couldn't have been more ecstatic for the characters.
Lauren Smith did a wonderful job with this trilogy, and I am so glad that I gave it a chance. I definitely recommend reading Her British Stepbrother series and Lauren's standalone novel, Legally Charming!
The story smoothly continues with our couple facing a new dilemma. Trying to keep their relationship a secret is hard to do when the seductive photograph Tristan and Kat took for charity is now all over the media. With the strong feelings they have for each other staying apart is not an option. It’s just a matter of time until the parents find out and when they married it added the complication of their being step-siblings. But there’s another parent that could also react badly to the news of their dating. How will this “kind of” forbidden couple handle the ultimatums thrown at them from both sides?
The connection and passion between Tristan and Kat is rare, it runs deep and intense, and nothing could break their bond whether they were together or not, that, for this reader is true love. They stood up for themselves when things were against them but life is never simple in the choices we make, every action has repercussions somewhere which have to be dealt with and not always to our liking and sometimes we need a helping hand. Tristan has a great friend in Carter whose creativity was devilishly delightful. There are always ways around things if you think outside the box as they say.
I loved this final episode, my only wish that the full story could have come out in one book. This has the ending I wanted, the best outcome for the two of them and more than this reader expected. The author does give us a good scare for a moment in which we wonder how things will end. Sometimes for change to be effected people have to face the threat of true loss to change their outlook on things. Tristan and Kat were captivating characters, soul-mates fighting for the chance at being together, their story was sexy, sweet and emotional; they both exhibited growth.
The story ended at 88% on a kindle. The epilogue was a set-up for Carter and Clelia’s story which is to come. This book is fiction but I wondered if it in anyway accurately describes the class system still alive in England, if it does then I sympathize with those who live there. People shouldn’t ever be forced into loveless arrangements, that’s only conducive to unhappiness and infidelity. For this reader there’s no acceptable reason for a person to settle on a match they don’t want though it does make for a good story when a couple manages to beat the system.
