We can only be thankful that her sharp, piercing and accurate voice is allowed to be heard in print.
Near the end, after some education, she became more interested in the social history known to her mother but not to herself, and reports second-hand some of her mother's memories from the Victorian era. Life really is better for the poor now (1972) than it was in 1900, social programs made social progress.
This book has less material for feeling superior to the upper classes than does "Below Stairs", and perhaps does not indulge our fascination with social stratification to the same degree, but it is very worth reading.
