A supernatural horror action game with a story devised by the master mythmaker, novelist and filmmaker Clive Barker. I purchased this game because of the price drop and some of the reviews I read on amazon.com and I must say I was quite pleased. A game like Jericho is the reason why I don't listen to so called professional critics. This game was just plain good and fun. Why it got poor reviews I have no idea. The graphics are a little dated by todays standards but still a nice looking game. The gameplay is fun and its nice to be able to play six different characters at the push of a few buttons. The action is fast paced and can sometimes be a little overwhelming but you'll get through it. This game does not suck and there should be a sequel. If you haven't played this game and you like FPS then you are missing out. Put down the Call of Duty, Gears and Halo and play something else for a change. Play Jericho! Stop listening to critics and use your own judgement. It is because of critics and the people that listen to them, why games like Jericho fall by the wayside and you never see a sequel. Its not the greatest game ever made but you will enjoy it. My only gripe is that it doesn't have a real cover system which can be a pain sometimes.

This is a pretty good game. Graphics are good. Nicely detailed environments. Interesting story. Very good voice acting. Each member of the squad has their own abilities, and the interface for controlling and switching is pretty good.
If you like achievements, this is the first and only game in which I managed to get every single one. None of them rely on relentless grinding (not too relentless, anyway), or obscure and difficult conditions, or even online play.
It's pretty linear. You don't roam about. This is good or bad depending on what you like. Since each chapter advances the plot it's hard to do that without leading the action in a specific direction.

That phrase I heard an awful lot as I kept dying and that was how that scenario started out. I see that many people did not care for it. As for myself..I think it is a great game to play. It is straight forward and not complicated..which is a plus for me since I am not the greatest gamer. It has replay value as you can use different characters since they are in your squad.
Graphics are very good and using Black's scope on the Roman Centurions is cool. Delgado, another squad memeber, is the one that I used the most as he has a gatling gun. Bullets are flying everywhere and sometimes you will run out but they will download to you..Inbound Ammo. Just remember to switch to different characters as they are required to get through a gate..kill an enemy..astral project to get to a lever. I did not listen one time and spent the next half hour running around a setting with each character till I had the right one to beat that setting.
Enemies can be rather repetitive but over all still fun as you just keep shooting the crap out them. This game may not be as long but I enjoyed it just as much as I did Fear & Fear II.
When I look at a game I look at game play - graphics & price and for me this scored high on all 3...4 & 1/2 stars over all.

this game i had very high hopes for, i love clive barkers work both book and on the silver screen, but unfortunately this game does not transition like it should. the games controls are horrid, the AI is just moronic, enemies will stand out in the middle of nowhere, the concept of the game is interesting but sadly the gameplay shuts the door on enjoying the story for what it is, voice acting isnt bad, but it is not good either. was saddened by this game even though i paid 3$ for it

Looking back, I've got to to say that I have yet to find any game developed or published under the 'Codemasters' logo that I've truly enjoyed. I've come across quite a few and I've tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, picking up and playing through most of them. The end result for pretty much all of them left me with the feeling I get when I take a bite of one of those fluffy French pastries with the powdered sugar on top; sort of sweet but filled with nothing but air and really messy at the end. They try, but just don't seem to have the revenue or the skill to match their convictions. It's too bad, because I'd be more than happy to give them an 'A' for effort.

GAMEPLAY-1 Star
For this type of story, I'd almost think they shot themselves in the foot by turning it into a basic first-person shooter, and the way Codemasters seems to do shooters is to have you wander down corridor-like areas and literally SWAMP you with wave upon wave of enemies at periodic intervals. Kill all of them, travel a little bit further and repeat. For this type of concept, a Resident Evil style of play would be better in my opinion. Make it a little slower paced but more suspenseful. After all, it's supposed to be horror, not straight bang-'em up action. And the action is mind-numbingly dull, meaning walk forward, pull a trigger, walk forward, push a button, open a door, walk forward, kill everything that's not a team member while avoiding exploding demons and barrels. Yawn. That style of play tends to lose its impact for me very quickly.

STORY-4 Stars
According to the story, before God created Adam, He created a prior, sexless entity named the Firstborn. Indescribably powerful but apparently viewed as a flawed creation by its maker, the Firstborn was left abandoned, banished from its Father's sight, to wander alone in a barren nether realm.

Jealous of the attention that it sees God lavishing on humanity, it resolves to destroy man and recapture God's love for itself. It breaks through to our world at the site of Al-Khali (roughly translated from Arabic as 'The Empty Quarter'), an ancient abandoned city of the Middle East.

Strange sightings are reported from that area along with unusual weather patterns, prompting the deployment of a special team of soldiers to investigate, each gifted with their own unique supernatural ability.

It quickly goes south from there.

GRAPHICS-5 Stars
The visuals of Jericho are incredibly detailed. This is the most immersive aspect of the game that I've found. The creatures are grotesque, the zone in the desert you find yourself in is convincingly remote and forlorn and I LOVE the effect when, after one of the demons is killed, a swarm of flies flows over the body to devour it. I find myself playing the game just to see that at times. Your team members and the demons are also very intricate in their design.

SOUND-3 Stars
The ambience is wonderfully rendered through the sound effects, music and dialogue... at first. It quickly becomes repetitive after the first few levels. There are only a few points where the dialogue wanders off the beaten path. That kind of thing only serves to remind me that this is, in fact, a game.

REPLAY-1 Star
I have found no way to get anything different from going through this game more than once. It's the same areas, the same enemies and the same non-witty sarcastic remarks from your team members each time you pop it into your console. I DO try to get something different out of each game or movie that I watch, but this one just didn't manage to draw me in enough.

OVERALL-2 Stars
Again, sadly, the idea behind Clive Barker's Jericho showed promise, but poor execution marred it beyond any hope of true quality. Unless you're the type of person that enjoys simplistic gameplay, this game will probably leave a void where satisfaction is supposed to be.

And I have a feeling that that's EXACTLY what the Firstborn wants.

This game is a big"could have been" and turned to be a great piece of... boring "action" (if I may use that word). I'm a huge fan of Clive Barkers' work, his books, stories (like the one in the game) are amazing, wonderful. But, even with a great story, the game is really poor. The gameplay is boring, with no challenge and no excitement. You don't get scared, you don't feel any adrenaline , the display of some actions is really bad, the controls are complicated.

You should buy this game if you're gonna be patient and do it ONLY for the story.

This game is schlock, there is no good to this. It looks terrible even for a 2007 game. Team AI and dialogue is bad and for a FPS the movement and aiming in this is awful. Like how can you screw up simply moving around in your games environment that the player can get stuck on nothing. I'm simply walking through the level and I get stuck have to move sideways for a moment then suddenly unstuck. If the aiming and movement in this were good the game could be tolerable but no sadly that's not the case.

"You don't want to know what I saw in there". A better game? I wish you had.

Your buying this game for easy achievements/ Trophies and the gore thats it. Good luck.
