The writing is strong and you truly want to keel over and throw up with him after his first attempt at running 2 miles and you cheer for him as he gets stronger and tougher in basic training. He gets somewhat repetitive with some of the wording, but all in all, I really enjoyed the first hand account of what it's like to be an Army infantry gay, black man just before and after 9/11.
I only wish that Rob had continued the story past his days in the military. By the end, I was very interested in what came next between the end of his service in 2003 and his eventual LGBT activism and arrest at the White House protesting DADT in 2010.
However do not bother, go straight to purchase.
Once you start reading you will find your device can not download the remainder of this book fast enough, so you can continue with Rob on this incredible awakening.
Great story, truthfully and believably told.
My partner is x military (N.Z.Army) I am going to have to hand over my tablet for him to read this; and no one gets to touch my tablet; well until now.
Thank you Rob!!!
