The problem is, that with this second book, if you have not read her other series, you might just be completely lost. From having read those other series in the incorrect order, having people, places and ideas pop up, without sufficient background, is very frustrating. It feels as though this book is meant to entice you to read all the other story lines. Which, by experience can be expensive. Great for her pocketbook, not so great for the reader's.
I read Cloud Dust, (the first book) believing that this series would, in fact, be completely different from the rest. Reading Cloud Invasion disabused me of this notion. I'm actually a bit disappointed in addition to being completely hooked.
Don't get me wrong, I think the book itself deserves five stars. However, if I were a first time reader of Connie Suttle, I would not be so content. The introduction of major people and ideas at the very end of the book, without any background, leaves me cold.
So, before diving into this well written novel for the first time, be prepared to feel the need to read the rest of her novels to answer simple questions. If, however, you have already become hooked, this will seriously feed your addiction and leaves you "jonesing" for more.
