I's 5'10" and have long fingers. These are long enough to sit comfortably in my hands. The softness was not necessarily a requirement, because I don't press on them, nor do I squeeze or have carpal tunnel or anything. That being said, these are unusually comfortable!! I don't hold the hook like a pencil, I do it the "unrefined way", but I tried holding it like a pencil, and both ways were UNUSUALLY comfortable. I actually thought that the comfort and EXTREME light weight of the product might lend itself to difficulty due to lack of spatial awareness, since you almost can't feel them. Not so...they are an absolute breeze to use! I buy all of my yarn on sale, so a lot of times, I have the cheap stuff that is good for kids' rugged treatment (and let's face it, cat-wrapping, dog-bundling, and van trip activities that my teenagers have yet to outgrow). Cheap stuff tends to not work up as nicely as the better yarns, but when I used them, the in-and-out motion was darn near effortless. I may have to buy a skein of good stuff just to see, because truly, I cannot image it being any smoother. I guess it's the quality of the metal that makes them sooooo light, but whatever it is, it works. Kind of like Magic Erasers or dry cleaning...I don't understand how they do what they do, but there's no denying the magic!! :-)
I wanted to keep the review light-hearted and easy to read, as I sometimes find the fine detail a little pretentious, like "Why do we want to know THAT much about this product?" but...really, really truly, the hooks are fun to use, and well worth the investment, and again, I saw this as a kind of overpriced impulse buy that ended up being a really good purchase.
Oh...last thing...I would like to see some additional patterns for cases offered...think 31 Purses kind of fun patterns...lime and pink just wouldn't have been my first inclination, but the colors certainly fit with the product. The little flaps keep 'em all from falling out, too! Good buy and goodbye!

I've compared using the Clover hook to other ergonomic hooks and I personally think the Clover hook handle itself is a lot more comfortable to hold in the palm and between the fingers. However, I am a "knife-holder," and I don't think "spoon-holders" would reap the same benefits. The grippy material on the hook is also a lot smoother than other ergonomic hooks I've tried, and it doesn't get as clammy as some other materials do.
The point of the hook doesn't split the yarn as much as other hooks tend to do, even with especially splittable yarn. Also the hook just catches the yarn better, so I am not having to constantly redo a stitch because I missed the yarn. The best thing about these hooks is definitely how smoothly the yarn glides over the hook. I feel like I can crochet a lot faster with these hooks, and I haven't noticed any other change in my crochet tension/gauge/etc. I also need fewer breaks when crocheting for long periods of time, and I have made it through several episodes of Grey's Anatomy without needing to put down my hook!
The only downside to the Clover Amour hooks is that I really, really wish I could have a 6.5-mm hook. Unfortunately the 6.0-mm hook is the largest size they manufacture (even outside of this set), and honestly I would have sacrificed the 2.25-mm or even the 4.5-mm hook. I'm not sure why they chose to not make the bigger hook, as most other standard hook sets do have the 6.5-mm hook. But that wouldn't stop me from repurchasing this set if I knew that before ordering.
