I do a lot of quilting, and have never bought "true" quilting pins. I saw these, and thought it was time to get some better quilting pins. Well, they seem to almost kind of bend when I try and use them...I know that quilting pins are longer and thinner, and I assume it just takes a bit of getting used to the difference in length and diameter. They are nice in that the heads are glass (won't melt while ironing...), and they are very thin, yet appear very sturdy. I have noticed while sewing that if you accidentally sew over one, it doesn't affect anything. So, I think it is just a matter of getting used to them. I was even going to send them back, but used a few again today, and I think they are "growing" on me. So, I plan to keep them, and will update again, if needed. I mean, isn't it a woman's prerogative to change her mind?... Update: I love these pins, so I am very glad I kept them, and do recommend them.

When I first started sewing with a machine, pins were pins. I was only doing clothing repairs, or ordinary garment sewing, which did not require a whole lot of precision.

Then I started quilting. Suddenly, I needed a lot more precision. A friend turned me on to silk pins. Those were OK for a while, but then I decided it was better not to pin at all. Even using silk pins, it seemed to distort the fabric.

As I grew more experienced with sewing precise quilt blocks, I found that I didn't need or want to pin. I just held the fabric with my fingers. This is called, "finger pinning."

Even now, there are times when I need to pin. I like these Clover QUILTING Pins. The size on the container is 0.5 mm. These are fabulous. You will be very happy with them.

But if you want an even finer pin, use the Clover Patchwork Pins-Fine, 100 Per Pack, which are 0.4 mm -- and noticeably better. I use them for hand piecing, which requires a very thin pin. But I am also starting to use the 0.4 mm pins for machine piecing.

Try one or the other -- you'll be very glad you did!

These are wonderful glass head pins for using when quilting/piecing. They are a bit longer and thicker that the yellow/blue glass head Clover pins (see my review on those too). These are superior to any other pins I have used, other than the yellow/blue glass head pins also by Clover. If you use these and then go back to using a plastic head pin, they will feel more like pinning with nails. These go into your fabric with ease and because they are glass headed, your pin heads will not melt if it gets next to a hot iron. Worth the higher price as they are superior pins.

These pins are very thin and sharp. No pulling of the fabric with these pins. I love them and they work the best.

I sew things in which intersections of fabric seams come together at the same place. If you use a regular fine pin, you have to pull the pin just before your sewing machine needle gets there, so you dont break your needle. Which causes your seam alignment to slip away from you.

With these pins, you sew right over the whole thing, THEN pull the pin. It works like crazy!...so use these on everything you want to be perfect...(and really, isn't that everything?) I know it is for me.

I pieced a quilt lately and was having trouble getting my seams to match as well as I wanted. My sister handed me these pins (they are very thin) and they made all the difference in the world. Great product!

I had been given a package of pins with the colored glass heads. They were extremely sharp and perfect for high thread count quilting fabrics. I couldn't remember the brand so I bought some of these Clover pins at a local shop since they appeared to match the ones I had. Big mistake. The Clover pins are not as sharp as the ones I already had, nor were they exactly the same color. Mine were a cloudy yellow and green colored heads. I had inserted 100 of them into my large pincushion and then had to remove them but keep the super sharp ones I already had. Well they were about the same color heads and it was late so I took a piece of muslin and tried inserting each pin. It was quickly apparent which were which. I was so disappointed because I have always looked to Clover for quality sewing and quilting tools. I am going to give these a second chance but not with finely woven fabrics. Probably use them with bulkier and coarser fabrics. The length is great and they are finer so they should work well in places that require longer pins.
