Product Description

The Tabasco Pepper plant is named after the Mexican state it is native to,Tabasco Mexico. The Tabasco Pepper being from a warm climate needs warmer weather to grow and produce well. The spicy Tabasco peppers which grow to around 2 inches long are initially a pale yellow/green turning to yellow and orange and finally ripening to a fiery red when ready to pick. When ripe they have a unique smoky flavor that makes them stand out from other small chili pepper varieties. These small peppers are no lightweights in the heat department either with a Scoville heat rating ranging from 30,000 to 50,000 - that is a whole lot of heat packed into a tight little package. Tabasco peppers can be used fresh from the garden, or dried and ground into a powder, or they are an excellent pepper for canning and preserving. Chili peppers such as the Tabasco Pepper are an excellent source of Vitamin C contain dietary fiber and provide antioxidants, that is a lot of health benefits packed into that little hot pepper. Place the Tabasco pepper plants 18-24 inches apart in a full sun garden location in soil that is rich in organic matter and well drained. To help maintain soil moisture, which most peppers need, mix some compost into the planting holes and mulch around the plants. The plant reaches an average height of 24-36 inches with some reported up to 60 inches tall. With its compact shape and upward growing fruits the Tabasco Pepper is also suitable to grow in patio containers as the peppers make a showy colorful display when growing and ripening. The Tabasco Pepper plants like consistent watering, remember to check daily if planted in pots as containers dry out quickly in hot weather. Expect harvesting 72-80 days after planting and continuing on to the early fall; this plant produces an abundant crop. Use caution when handling the peppers, as the oils from the peppers can burn the skin if not protected. If grown in a region with no frost these peppers plants could last several years.
