Strong fan nut wrench...

It worked on my BMW 540i E39 to remove the fan clutch nut.. Although the water pump pulley bolts on my car are recessed about 1/2" and hard for the counter holder to completely lock onto. I was able to get one bolt in the hole and just a hair on the second bolt. The nut came off easy, so it worked. Some people modified the counter-holder to better lock on the 2 bolts more securely. It should come from the factory that way. Feels like good quality steel. One star off since I couldn't get both bolts in the counter-holder. My tool set came in in back steel, not the silver pictured. I have used it twice now and really like, great tool. Very easy to remove the fan clutch.

If it doesn't fit, rotate your pump

If the "holder" wrench doesn't fit your pulley you might need to rotate your water pump. My water pump pulley bolts are not in a perfect square - they're kind of like an X laid on its side. The wrench didn't fit at first but after rotating my pump it fit just fine. I had the hoses disconnected from the thermostat (always a good idea to replace when you're doing the pump) so it was easy to get the holder and the wrench in there. My nut was rusted so I gave it a gentle shot with PB Blaster. After letting it soak for about 15 min it only took a small tap from a hammer to break off the bolt. Keep in mind it's a reverse thread. I have a 2004 E46 325.

Great tools, the finish is very professional looking. Made the job in my BMW very easy. Removing the fan was something that I have always dreaded and stayed away from, because I had no idea how to tackle the job. I was afraid to ruin the radiator fins, that look so fragile, without much space to squezee any regular tools in there. I don't remember how I manage to replace the radiator in my 94 740i a few years ago, without removing the fan. This time I tackled the fan in order to get to the water pump in my 2004 BMW 330CI. A YouTube video and this tool made the 'impossible' job a cinch. Funny, how having the proper tools always does the trick... well, most of the time. On a side note, the seller was very understanding of my request for a quick delivery, and I received my tools 2 days after ordering. Not that I want to set expectation, because this item was not covered by Amazon Prime. Bottom line, would I recommend this tool to a good friend? Absolutely. Hint - since the handles, as the tool are thin (as they should be to fit in the tight space) if the nut is really tight, you may want to use a pair of mittens to exert pressure. I thought that I may need to do that, but after ascertaining, which way they turn (youtube), I pressed away, and voila, the removal was done.

I tried to remove the fan clutch from my BMW, but despite the encouraging U tube videos, it just would not move. After spending several hours of frustration, I gave up and researched the tools. These looked to be the most substantial. The order arrived quickly, and these are heavy duty and nicely finished professional grade tools. I'll probably only use them once, but they were the only way this clutch was coming off. If yours has never been off before, be prepared for a major battle. I doubt it can be removed without the special tools. These work great.

A bit dissapointed...I had to "groove" one side of the tool where the pulley diameter passes to get any bite on the pulley bolts of my E39 540i. You only need to groove it about 1/16- 1/8th. It should have come this way from the manufacturer. See image.

Didn't fit 2001 BMW 325ci E46 with M54 engine

The hub holder tool did not fit the water pump bolts on my 2001 325ci E46 with M54 engine. Maybe the water pump replaced by the dealer has slightly different spacing of the 10mm bolts that mount the pulley to the pump. The holder spacing is close but not usable. Also. The tool really needs to have an offset handle to clear the valve cover and other bits of the engine that get in the way.
