Editorial Reviews

A slacker trust-fund type finds the motivation to become a coach of a middle school soccer team. Through an unlikely friendship with the teams thirteen-year-old star player, and a budding relationship with Gabrielle who questions his party-boy lifestyle, Nick begins to understand that growing up is more complicated than he ever could have imagined whether it be at thirteen, or at twenty-eight. Nick embraces his new challenge, his new girlfriend, and his soccer team of misfits, and with a few missteps along the way, ends up finding himself in a place he never thought possible.

The movie is sweet and sentimental. The main character figures out that giving to others is a lot more fulfilling than simply being a slacker. The kids figure out that being a team is more successful than everyone looking out for themselves. A father figures out how to nurture and support his son. All this with a nice romance developing between two characters who are easy to like. I enjoyed the interplay between the main character and his group of friends, as well as the little bit of interplay we are shown between the teammates. Overall, this is an enjoyable movie with a good cast. It may not be an epic love story, but it will probably make you smile.

The movie started out kind of slow, but it started to pick up a bit about half way through. It was not exactly what I expected from the trailer, but it was interesting. I like Hugh Dancy, but I do have to say that this is not my favorite movie with him in the lead. The Jane Austen Book Club, Adam, and Hysteria are better movies.

Hugh Dancy plays a distracted character, which I guess is okay, since I was easily distracted from the movie. Perhaps Dancy/Coach is a metaphor for the movie: aimless, uncommitted, bemused. Of course, since the story is so cliched, I realize that Dancy/Coach will become more committed as the movie progresses. Yet even near the midpoint, the characters remained sketchy and the words were still unmemorable.

There are a lot of similar movies that do this plot much, much better. So skip this and check out those other films.

I was looking for a movie to pass the time one evening and this one did the trick. I knew what to expect...nothing mind challenging, just a movie with a predictable plot. If your looking for much more then keep looking!

Very cute, feel-good movie, totally worth watching. Of course, Hugh Dancy is adorable in it, and very spirited. The entire cast was well put together and everyone played off each other great.

The main soccer youngster and the supportive best friend (female) stole most of the scenes. I didn't see a great deal of chemistry between the main characters and the male lead wasn't some one you could really root for.

I thought this movie was very cute, feel-good movie. I really love Hugh Dancy and his acting was very good. I gave the movie 3 stars because it was a little predictable. Same story line almost every movie has. over all it was enjoyable.
