First of all, this review is for the CDR-830 Dash Cam, this review list mixes several different models. I got this Dash Cam last week and I love it! It was very easy to set up and use. The bracket holds the device securely in place an he cord has plenty of length to position the device anywhere on my windshield.

The downloadable software works very well and shows my video, placement on the map and speed/gforce. I was able to use the software on the PC only but the Mac would read the video files from the card.

I would recommend this camera, the build seems good and the output quality is fantastic.

Had this for a week now and it just saved me. Got in an accident and this was definitive proof for the police. Everybody should have one of these!

This dash cam is one of the best values out there (IMHO), based on the features and options for the price. The trick is getting past any initial product quality and stability issues. I usually buy name brand electronics, but I really wanted a dash cam with a GPS in a compact unit and this unit caught my eye. Throw in free Prime shipping, easy returns and exchanges through Amazon....how can you go wrong?

My own experiences have been as follows:

1) The first unit worked great in my car window for about 2 weeks and then it began to randomly start-up with the frame shifted (rolled) 1/3 or 2/3 horizontally. This would record the same way, with the screen split vertically and sometimes rolling every 5-10 seconds. If you power cycle the dash cam, the issue went away, but this gets tiring multiple times a day. While this may date me, this issue reminds me of the old tube-type televisions that had a horizontal and vertical hold settings that would get out of sync and roll. Amazon made it extremely easy to order a new replacement and send the failing one back - you rock!

2) The second Cobra Dash Cam did not have any video issues out of the box and everything worked great (again) for about a week. Then suddenly, one day I noticed that the GPS symbol had disappeared from the screen. I checked the settings and tried resetting the unit, to no avail. Unplugging & re-plugging the GPS unit made no difference and the recorded video had no GPS data recorded. I searched support forums and scoured the Internet, but no other suggestions were out there. Amazon made it extremely easy to order another new replacement (AGAIN) and I sent the second failed one back.

I bought one of these at a TA while on the road driving a semi. Absolutely without a doubt the worst way I could have spent $150. Worked fine for about six months, although changing memory cards is somewhat tedious with the slot design. Also, 32 GB max capacity? Seriously? At six months, a portion of the display has gone blank and it can't make up its mind about recording audio. Mount is also proprietary and does not lend itself to odd angles. Won't be buying another, and I don't recommend it. Side note - HDMI cable cannot be connected while mount is attached. Far better cameras are available for comparable prices, shop around.

This dash cam is a great choice for those who need to capture footage of the road around them. The camera takes video of a fair quality, able to discern most road signs and license plates of cars directly in front of you. At night this camera (the 830) series will still be able to capture grainy video of our surroundings, although signs and license plates will be illegible. The camera itself is very small, and will occupy an insignificant corner of your windshield. A 10 foot power cord plugs into your car's 12 volt accessory outlet, although the cables may look a bit cluttered in your car unless you find a clever way of disguising them ( I routed the power cable around the passenger seat to one of my outlets so only a foot or so of cable is visible.)

The CDR 830 comes with a GPS antenna on the windshield mount, and if you download cobra's software, you can view the GPS data of your footage. However the software is not accessible on a Mac, so I don not have any experience with this feature.

The suction cup mount is strong, but a bit cumbersome to apply. A bit of patience is required to keep it in place. Also, there are no instructions included with the camera, however you can find a manual on Cobra's website.

Overall, this unit is a great choice for those who need a dash-cam.

By far the worst device EVER made! Directly out of the box I turned it on, it displayed the camera for 30 seconds then went black and froze! Went to the website and got the updated firmware for it and decided to give it a true test. 30 min after putting the device in my vehicle it froze.... 2 hours after that it froze... 45 seconds and froze... Each time requiring me to reach for the device and hold the power button for 7-10 seconds to turn it off and again for 3-5 seconds to turn it back on..

I proceeded to call the company to attempt to get support! After waiting for 2 hours on hold I left a message and received an automatic response of "someone will contact you within 24 hours!"
After 4 days waiting for a callback I decided it was time just to return it! 2 weeks later I get a call from their support department which happened to have the WORST attitude for a phone rep! I happily hung up and refuse to do any further business with the cobra company!
