When I first opened the package from UPS I have to admit I was a little scared I had bought a toy or perhaps they had sent me the wrong item. I'm happy to say that it's just a reminder of the old saying "Don't judge a book by its cover".
Assembling this thing was extremely easy. I'm not sure how anyone could not figure it out really. The only part that was a little tough was placing the string on the bow. I'm sure there's some technical name for it. For that I placed the pistol grip on my stairs. I pushed down on either side and my wife strung the bow as I held it. And the only reason why it was a little tough was because she was trying to string it backwards and I had to tell her repeatedly how to do it.
TAKE EXTRA CAUTION... When you place an arrow on this thing if you press the safety release to hard forward you can fire this thing. I'm sure it's some kind of design flaw but you could end up shooting someone if you're not paying attention. I know because I dried fired it by mistake. So when you go to release the safety always have it pointing in a safe direction. I fired this thing about six times at a piece of 1/4" plywood I had. About five of the six times I fired it the arrow went halfway through the piece of plywood. I was impressed how much power it has. I was standing about 20' back. Just to give you an idea.
Overall you really get your money's worth. Even if you end up buying a new string for it just remember you only paid 25 bucks for the darn thing. I took some pictures and I will post them as soon as I get back home. I hope this review helped you out a bit. If you have any questions just place a comment.
I've had this for a long time. I've fired it at least a 1000 times. Still works great. I did modify it so I have a weaver mount on it. I am still very pleased with my purchase, and yes I would still buy this even with the price increase.
The point is: what determines whether you get the crossbow listed for sale, or a cheap knockoff, is which seller you buy it from. Unfortunately, Amazon won't allow me to say which seller I got which crossbow from - believe me I have tried (review gets pulled). Hopefully, there is a way to let people know in the comments or in the forums. It would be a real shame if each buyer has to get to the correct crossbow by trial and error, and repeated return shipping costs. Btw,I know that you can review each seller, but that doesn't help much when they are selling hundreds of items a month, week or day, and the reviews just get pushed down so quickly.
I admit giving this a one star rating just to get any potential buyers attention and warn him/her. I hate to do this to a product I haven't even used, but I feel it is worth it if it helps bring awareness to buyers.
Also, if you are unfortunate enough to buy one of the knockoffs, I believe the real weakness in these imitations is the fragility of the actual bow (tends to break). The good news is I have seen the bow sold separately on Amazon for @$8 (includes shipping) and it appears to be good quality. Adding this bow seems to have solved the problem for some of the people with damaged bows. Amazon won't allow me to link to it, but you can easily find it with search terms "fiber bow". Hope this helps.
