Got this to put in my little RV. I was looking for something small enough to not draw down
the one battery I have in the Coach. Installed under a cabinet close to the battery and
ran 10 ga wire to it. Plug in the Coach electrical cord to it and turned it on. It will
run a Radio or TV or the Microwave or the Fan in my A/C but not the A/C itself which would
take about a 3000 watt inverter which would drain my battery really fast! I watched TV and
listened to the radio for 2 days and finally ran the battery down running the A/C fan on the
second day. It's a little workhorse. Good for the price too!

The first one died within about 6 weeks. That is not a good sign... but Cobra made good and sent me a new one which has been working flawlessly for > year. I like this unit because the fan is active, not passive. So if you are using it to, say, charge a phone or run a laptop with a charged battery, (e.g. not much current draw) the fan stays off. As a noise-freak, that makes me happy. The power rating seems realistic, unlike two other units I tried. I'm quite happy with it, minus the dead original of course.

Bought this for tailgating at Buffet. I was actually able to hook it up to a lawn tractor battery and power a blender. I wasn't sure if the battery would have enough juice, but it worked great and was much easier to transport than a car or marine battery. Testing at home showed the low voltage alarms and whatnot work very well. I just wish this came with a cigarette lighter cord for those times you're just using it on low-amp devices the way some other inverters do. Also, I agree with some other reviews that the mounting tab locations look like they would make getting the screws in there difficult. I haven't tried mounting it, but the edges of the case definitely would get in the way. Creative DIYers would find a way to make it work, so no big deal.

Figured I'd buy this since a little 150watt at walmart is 30$. Why not 800 for 40$? :P

Ok I haven't got much use out of it since I just got it today but I tested it with a 500watt work light. It powered on like no problem.
Tested it with a 5,000BTU A/C unit that draw's 515watts.. No problem!

But the cables that come with it are indeed 2ft long. Which is enough to just run it off your battery. But your hood would have to be open.
I mainly bought this cause I take a road trip from South Texas to Eastern Nebraska. I usually have a couple phones, a laptop or 2, and a mini Refrigerator running. I smoked my $40 150watt from radio shack cause of that... Really cause I was running too much stuff. (Wheres the overload protection? >:-( ) Also cause the fan had failed. So instead of buying that pile all over again, I'd give this a try.

I read in the manual on page 5 and I quote; "B. Cool Ambient air temperature should be between 30°F and 105°F. (0°C and 40°C). The cooler the better."
This worries me since a car gets to roughly 140°F in the summer. Depends on where you live. This concerns me because the glue inside the inverter or some components could go bad in this kind of heat. So I would put it in a place where it can snap in and snap out. That way I can use it when I need it and when I don't need it, I can leave it at my house.

Anyway other than that above, I love this thing. :)
If something happens in the future, I will repost. (of course I don't expect it to last forever)

**UPDATE 10/20/11** [made on 3/28/12.. lol]

As I prepared the inverter for a road trip to Missouri, it failed me. It was only tossing 85-90v and made my laptop charger sound like it was about to blow.

I do NOT have electricity in my Carport, so this little gadget is a GODSEND. It runs my Elipitical Buffer (for my Cars) wonderfully, and cuts out BEFORE my Cars' Battery Charge is emptied. I would not want to be without it!

mine works great. i don't use the wires that it comes with. they are short and thin. i modified my old jumper cables to use with it. i cut the clamps off of one end and permanently attached that to the inverter. now i have big clamps with 12 foot wires for a little more flexibility. i have used it for camping to make coffee and it worked great. i have also hooked up various power tools and those fired right up. (power drill, circ saw). i had my truck running while i was using it only because i was nervous about killing my battery. (we camp out in the middle of nowhere). it's a good little tool, i would recommend it.

As I have learned from previous experience...Cobra makes attractive looking components......UNFORTUNATELY....that old saying of "All show and No go"....Is true to the letter here....

This inverter has no manual override switch or external fuses to reset or replace ..should a fault situation arise....I purchased this unit new from a very repuatable CB shop and it came highly recommended.....

After 1 day of use.....I plugged in my electric shaver (which always ran very effectively hooked to a 175 watt inverter)....The new unit gave off a heated smoke smell and the redc light came on.....no audio warning and the fan quit running....and the unit shut down.....I unplugged the 2 cables thinking it must need to rest without incoming power......No effect....The unit is dead in the water and I am out the price of the unit.....

The shipping cost to send it back for repair is high and not worth risking another failure.

My advice to anybody needing an inverter.......AVOID A UNIT THAT HAS NO MANUAL RESET BUTTON OR EXTERNAL FUSES

and remember......just because something looks impressive....What you see isn't always what you get

COBRA......you need to upgrade your inverter products to be equipped with a reset override and external fuses that can be owner serviced
