Using advanced technology, the iRadar provides you with full 360-degree radar and laser detection. This means you'll be covered on all sides of your vehicle, without any gaps or blind spots. For every signal that it detects, the iRadar emits a clear alert tone, indicating the location and proximity of the threat.
City and Highway Modes Filter Out False Alerts
The iRadar features two different modes: city and highway. If you're driving in an urban area, you can toggle to city mode to filter out annoying false signals caused by automatic doorways. If you're traveling at high speeds, toggle to highway mode and get higher detection sensitivity and immediate alerts.
Exclusive Android App Unlocks Enhanced Features
When paired with an Android smartphone, the iRadar offers even better detection service. Using an exclusive, free-to-download Android app, you can wirelessly link your iRadar to your smartphone and enjoy enhanced features. The app provides you with a visual display of your alerts, telling you both the type of alert and its proximity to you. It also displays a history of your alerts on a map, allowing you to see the time and location of each detected signal.
The iRadar app also gives you access to AURA, Cobra's exclusive camera and driving hazard database. AURA uses GPS technology to alert you of photo-enforced areas as you approach them. The alerts are delivered based on your speed: The faster you are going, the more advanced the warning is. This gives you ample time to react and slow down. The database boasts tens of thousands of entries and is updated every 12 hours by Cobra's team.
The Cobra iRadar Detection System is backed by a limited one-year warranty.

But this is the first one that actually takes a very good stab at "detecting" those speed traps where you get "shot" just as you round the corner. The user is allowed to report speed traps using the bluetooth connected smartphone. That feature saved me just this morning. The radar part of the actual detector never went off but as I traveled down the interstate I received a "user reported speed trap" (or something like that), made sure I was doing the correct speed, slowed down about 5mph and THEN saw the cop. He did "zap" me with his radar and it was detected. But I already knew he was there thanks to some anonymous person who reported the trap earlier.
Yes, ALL radar detectors will go off when there are no cops around. That is what the "city/highway" setting is for (accessible only though the smart phone when connected). Automatic doors at businesses are the usual culprit. It's a byproduct of the times we live in and not Cobra's fault.
So far, it seems to be a admirable detector all by itself without even connecting it to a smart phone. But adding the smart phone turns it into a beast of a detector that no geek worth his salt should be without.
Oh, and one thing I might mention: The iPhone and Android units are NOT interchangeable. The one made for the iPhone will ONLY work on the iPhone. The Android will only work with an Android. I learned that the hard way. ;)
You also need to download the free Android (or iOS) app. The major difference between this unit and a standard radar detector is that every single setting (other than volume) is controlled via the app. You can't even change from "City" setting to "Highway" setting without the app. So while technically you can use the unit as a standalone radar detector, you are severely limiting the unit's capabilities. Your phone and the base unit communicate via Bluetooth, so you will have to activate the Bluetooth on your phone and pair the devices together. You only have to do this once, as they will automatically connect in the future. The LED on the unit shows red when unpaired and blue when paired. My Droid Incredible phone had no problems pairing with the unit.
The beauty of having an app control everything is that there are a lot of customizable options that you wouldn't see in a standard radar detector. Here are just some of the cool things you can do:
- Change notification sound from a set of beeps to a voice.
- Turn off notifications for certain bands. I received a few false notifications in Ka band, so I just turned that band off. The app also gives details on each band so you know what the differences are.
- You can set the unit to automute after a few seconds of beeping.
- The app will warn you of upcoming speed traps.Read more ›
-Easily disable VG2 and POP alerts (top contributing alerts to false alarms)
-Clear and loud voice alerts
-Nice display on Droid Incredible
-Great price for access to Aurora
-Great detectability range (I have picked up cops 2-3 miles away. Detectability range depends on how the cop has his radar gun set)
-Pairs up with my phone every time. If you leave the APP running (or the device turns off) and get out of bluetooth range, you have to restart the APP.
-Does not interupt phone calls.
-It even works great as a stand-alone unit. Just know what the sounds mean.
-No interupted bluetooth connection. It stayed paired with my phone all the way from Louisiana to Miami Florida with no problems.
-Sometimes the digital spedometer gets throwed off and you may be getting a 10-20mph increase in speed (according to the display, not actual) and only once has it stopped registering speed. But shortly after the glitch it goes back to normal.
I think this unit paired with the Droid makes it one of the top-of-the-line radar detectors. I'm buying one for my Wife and dad for the holidays.
The only downside I found so far was that the Cobra iRadar app is a battery hog. I have to keep my phone charger plugged into the cigarette lighter jack to keep my cellphone battery from draining completely during an hour or so drive.
